Update 2-10-09

Hi,

A correction, a warning, some more Los Angeles music, an obituary, and a nice note.

The correction, from Emily Kleinman Schreiber:  The Alumni Association meeting was changed to Thursday, February 12th.  The meetings were all supposed to be on the first  Thursday, except in January, but sometimes things arise, and we have to change the date.
Also, if you'd send people directly to the Alumni Association web site for the meeting minutes, that would avoid these glitches.  That address again:  www.vsshs-alumni.org/

[Rich -- Yep, as I've mentioned before, there are lots of interesting things on the Alumni Association site, and you can read the unabridged minutes there.  But if you prefer the CliffsNotes versions, they'll eventually turn up here.  Meanwhile, if you thought you'd missed the Alumni Association meeting, this is your second chance to go -- this Thursday, the 12th, in South's library at 7:15.
And if you're curious, from Wikipedia:  CliffsNotes was started by a Nebraska native named Cliff Hillegass in 1958.  He was working at Nebraska Book Company of Lincoln, Nebraska, when he met Jack Cole, the co-owner of Coles, a Toronto book business.  Cole was also the publisher of a series of Canadian study guides called Coles Notes.  Jack Cole offered the American rights to Hillegass, and Hillegass and his wife, Catherine, started their business in their basement at 511 Eastridge Drive, with sixteen William Shakespeare titles. Cliffs Notes now exist on hundreds of works, and the term Cliffs Notes has now come into modern usage, as a noun for notes of a similar nature to the original Cliffs Notes books.]

The warning, from Zelda White Nichols:  I just got an update from Snopes.com -- formerly known as Urban Legend -- about a Valentine’s Day Worm Virus.  It's a true virus, and I tried to cut and paste the details and the background from the Snopes site so you could include that information here, but the site won’t allow that.  So please include the following address:  http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/valentine.asp   And I hope people will read the information.

[Rich -- That is a virus all right, and it has a series of variations, so be careful with what you open in the next several days.  Still, this a one way to remind me to wish you all a good Valentine's Day.]

The music, from Amy Lieberman:  If you're in the Los Angeles area, are visiting the west side on an upcoming Saturday night, and are looking for a musical evening, try Billy Valentine and Stuart Elster (on the piano) -- a duet -- February 21st and 28th.  Where?  SHUTTERS AT THE BEACH.  1 Pico Boulevard, Santa Monica.  7:00 PM --11:00 PM.  The phone number:  310.458.0030.  If you can make it, it'll be great to see you.

From Michael Schimmel, a notice he found online for the Memorial for Robert Rossi:
Robert Rossi, born May 1, 1947, in Oceanside, New York, passed from this life November 30, 2008.  Robert was a Durango, Colorado resident for nine years.
He married Shelena House June 11, 1983 in Valley Stream, New York.  Robert worked at Nature's Oasis for three years, where he made many friends.  An outdoorsman who was an avid mountain biker for many years, he loved to hike and bike the mountains around Durango.  Robert also had a passion for music, which he passed on to all of his children.  He spent many Saturday nights as a volunteer deejay at the Fort Lewis College radio station under the moniker "The Tambourine Man".
Survived by his wife of twenty-five years, Shelena Rossi, Durango; daughter Rachel Rossi, Ridgewood, New York; son Christopher Rossi, Berlin, New Jersey; son Dylan Rossi, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; daughter Mariah Rossi, Durango; daughter Piper Rossi, Durango; one brother, Steven Rossi, New Port Richey, Florida; two sisters, Kathiann Rossi-Rooney, Berlin, New Jersey; Joanne Bolnick, Tampa, Florida, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will hold a service at a later date.

Finally, the nice note, from Jerry Bittman:  My daughter Katie and her boyfriend were invited over for dinner on Sunday to somebody's house.  Monday morning, she was raving to me about the hostess.  The name of this fabulous hostess -- she and my daughter work in the same hospital -- is Lee Halprin.  Her husband is some guy named Art.
Seriously, thank you Art.  Katie and Aaron had a fantastic evening.  And Artie was right when he told me that Katie must get her social etiquette from her mother.

Also, can we have a short report from one of the people who went to last weekend's mini-reunion in Florida?  Thanks.  Hope you all had fun.
