Update 4-21-09
Hi,
Here we go: From Barbara Blitfield Pech to Stu Borman: Once again, with too much time on my hands, I Googled "Valley Stream, New York pictures," and on or about page 7 of over 40 pages of amazing thumbnail photos from Valley Stream, I squinted, double clicked to enlarge the image, and... what a find! A picture of the Nudelman triplets. I don't know, but it may be that the triplets don't have this photo, or at least they may not have seen it in years. Hope you can show it in the next reunion update.
From Stu to Barbara: Thanks. I'll post this as soon as possible, if the triplets don't mind.
From Stu -- politely -- to Ellen, Nancy, and Lynn: Is it OK if I post the attached photo on the South High School photo site? If so, could you please caption it properly for me from left to right? (I realize you may not know who the other triplets are.)
From Lynn to Stu: How interesting that Barbara found the photo by Googling "Valley Stream." I recently found it by Googling "images" and found it under "triplets." In this photo we are: Ellen, Nancy, and Lynn The boys are the Murtagh triplets, and I don't remember the names of the other set.
From Stu to Rich: I posted the photo, but captioning was embedded in the photo, and it's copyrighted by Bettmann/Corbis. So I guess I better contact Bettmann/Corbis to request copyright permission to post the photo, but I don't think that company is going to be philanthropic and let us post it for free. I may end up having to take it down, so you might want to include a notice about it in tomorrow's e-mail, so people can see it quickly before it possibly disappears.
Also, there was captioning embedded in the photo, which is why I'm seemingly so all-knowing about the identities of the subjects, the location, and the date.
From Barbara to Stu: Don't worry. If the copyright police come after you, you are cordially invited to hide, I mean hang out in, Miami.
[Rich -- In other notes: In answer to where did Joe Jochnowitz go, I did a quick Internet search and found that Johan "Joe" Jochnowitz taught art at Kean University in New Jersey for a time. But I don't know for how long, or if he's still teaching there. I wrote the department chair last week but haven't heard back, maybe because it's been Spring Break.
Speaking of which, I forgot to wish everyone a happy Easter or Passover. Sorry. I was busy celebrating a bit of both.]
Hy Rosov writes: Thank you for the update and the explanation of the flickr links and spam filters. I didn't know that computers have become so complicated.
Amy Lieberman asks: Does anyone know what became of both my Spanish teachers --
Mr. Solomon and Mr. Alvarez?
Emily Kleinman Schreiber requests: If you care to support my NAMI Walks commitment in memory of my Mom, visit this link: nami.org/namiwalks09/LIQ/EmilysTeam

The minutes were corrected – the correct date of the Wellness Fair is April 25 from 10 a.m. – 12 noon.
A motion to accept the amended minutes was made by Eric Spinner and seconded by Eileen Howell and they were so voted.
Reminder: Our minutes are posted on our website <http://www.vsshs-alumni.org > after approval by members.
Treasurer's Report:
Emily presented the Treasurer’s report, which is on file.
Nancy Russo-Rumore donated $25 in memory of Carmine Cervone. New lifetime members include Pete Pedone (’61), Steven Bangs (’58), Gustave Skip Nelson (’58), John Willows (’66), and Jamie Baker (’70).

Scholarship Committee:
The deadline for the submission of applications by students is March 31, 2009. The applications will be available to students on February 13.
Ross Lipsky, South’s Falcon Report advisor, is planning a “commercial” for scholarships.
We are working towards placing an announcement of our scholarship award in the PTA Newsletter and in the Guidance Office.
School Culture Committee:
Claire Brush Reinhardt attended the meeting with Maureen Henry and submitted the following information:
· A Day of Service will be held on Sunday, March 29.
· About 16 students will go to Ronald McDonald House in New Hyde Park to cook and serve dinner to 80 people.
· South’s Art department will make centerpieces for the dinner.
· The Athletic department will conduct a gym lobby cleanup.
· A group of students will visit a soup kitchen in Hempstead.
· The Occupational Ed. teacher is organizing activities connected with the Interfaith Nutrition Network.
· The Character Action Team will clean Hewlett House with green products.
· There is still time for others to volunteer in activities.
· There will be a breakfast for those students who participate in the day. A motion was made by Eileen Howell and seconded by Claire Brush Reinhardt to donate $30 for bagels. A motion by Eileen and Irene Sundal to increase the donation to $50 amended this. The members approved the final motion.
New Business:
Adriana Tringone, a student at South, was invited to speak to the Alumni about a charity she and her family are starting called “Blankets for Babies on Long Island.” She encourages the collection or making of blankets, hats, booties and other articles for donation to sick babies at St.Mary’s Children’s Hospital in Bayside. The members were very taken with Adriana and her project and will discuss contributions to the charity.
Claire suggested posting a message board on our website. Eric thought it might be better and less complicated to set up a Facebook page for the Alumni Association as a non-profit group. Arlene Ainbinder Lynn and her husband will look into setting this up. Thank you!
Emily suggested that the Association set up a mini-grant form to benefit South’s students, the school, or the Valley Stream community.

South High‘s Career Day is set for March 24, 2009; from 7:45 – 10:15 a.m. Please let the school know if you would like to participate.
