Update 10-08-02

Hi,

In the order received:

From Grace Dibble Kincade:  My husband and I just had a quick 48-hour trip to Dallas for my nephew's wedding.  The highlight was seeing our son and 6-month pregnant daughter-in-law, but another highlight was seeing Ellen (Epstein) and
Allen Silver at the wedding.  I find it amazing that after 37 years we have managed to see each other 3 times this year!  I introduced them to my brother and his wife and they have become friends.  With all of the renewed connections, attending the reunion was one of the best decisions I have made.

From Zelda White Nichols:  My husband and I lived in Orchard Park (home of the Buffalo Bills and just a bit south of Buffalo) back in the 70's. The first time we went to the Falls was a bleak, bleary typically gray March day. Of course, we didn't know better at the time so we went to the American side, stood there in 40-mile-an-hour winds, and said, "Is that it?"  What a huge disappointment.  We couldn't believe how poor an attraction it was.  It wasn't until 6 months later that we learned to go to the Canadian side.  It sounds much more touristy now, but then it was mostly gardens with pretty Victoria Park. You left out something else Canada has -- those yummy Mounties.

From Barbara Blitfield Pech:  If you liked it the first time, or missed it and just heard about it, here's another chance to get in on the good stuff.  I'll be in O-Town (that would be Orlando) with the boy wonder, Evan for the holiday weekend -- specifically, at the Holiday Inn Select at UCF. One of the big features will be that on Thanksgiving Day, we have entered our 1950 Dodge Coronet in The Turkey Trot, an annual street rod event in Daytona, which is about an hour northeast of Orlando.  If you are around town, or just want to be in town for this return weekend, please let me know so I can plan accordingly -- as in how big a turkey do I need to stuff?  As you all have heard, or been privy to, we tore the town up in August, South Style, and the raves are still coming in as our pix go to press.  There is always the opportunity to have as much fun the 2nd. time, if not more than the first -- getting arrested does not count.  I'll be looking for your r.s.v.p. a.s.a.p.

From Ray Staley:  E-Bay item 1566400509 (Ends October 3, 2002)  1966 Valley Stream South High School Yearbook.  Please pass this on as someone might need it.

From Booker T. Gibson:  Without telling me, Linda Tobin Kellinger '69 and my wife, formerly Frances Butler, got together on the phone and sang the Forest Road School song back and forth until they got it right.  It's embarrassing, but I'm glad it's over. (another "Senior Moment,"  I guess)

From Bob Eichinger in Florida's Sun and Fun capital, Miami:  Great description of the Falls.  Went there years ago.  Of course, we went on the boat.  You must have the water fall on you to experience Niagara.  Speaking of all the tourist stuff, have you been to Cherokee, North Carolina or Daytona Beach, Florida?  Also, Key West.  Everybody must have the T-shirt and the shot glass.  However, back to your adventure:  despite all the tourist stuff, aren't you glad you went there at least once in a lifetime?

(Yeah, it was neat.  Though I've never been to Cherokee, Daytona Beach or Key West.  I must be living wrong.)

More from Barbara Blitfield Pech:  In an ongoing effort to have the next reunion not be in Nebraska, from Time Magazine, September 16, 2002 pages 52-56.  "THE NEW DUST BOWL" NEBRASKA: Facing A Hard Choice: To Abandon Crash Crops or Cows
Also, my latest Miami find:  Frankie's, since 1956, home of the Square Pizza Slice.  Now, in all honesty, this is not a New York slice, and not even a Domino's taste.  But it is exactly the same slice as GREEN ACRES PIZZA -- think early-to-mid-60's, front of the mall, next to Sam Goody.  And what's better for a reunion snack?

From Eric Hilton:  I am looking forward to seeing the Florida photos on line.  Meanwhile, I am going up to New York on a photoshoot next week, so I will be seeing Robin, but missing Gayle by a few days.  Too bad.

From Paul DeMartino:  Just a quick note to say that the New York Gatherings are starting again, and the next one is set for Sunday, October 27th, to be held at Hudek's Pub in Baldwin.  Please tell all interested people to contact either Dennis or me for details. We'll also be contacting a few people, and we expect a nice turnout.  As for me, I'm going to Mexico tomorrow for 5 days.

From Jerry Bittman:  Just had a few thoughts I wanted to pass along.
First of all congratulations to Chef Paul Zegler for coming in 1st place in the Los Angeles County Cheese Cake Cooking Contest.  He beat out over 60 other entrants.  My mouth is still watering, thinking about that cake.
I also want to thank Mr. Rosov for the kind words he wrote about me a few weeks ago.  I'm glad that you enjoy my articles and so now can you please do me a favor and change my final grade from an F-minus to an A-plus?
I want Barbara Endy to know that I was thinking of her this past weekend -- she was in the Cayman Islands
and I pictured her walking along the beach.
If anybody could make it to Orlando for Thanksgiving, GO. Ms. Barbara Pech is having one of her wild weekends so if you want to join her and Ms. Feit and others, you better make your reservations now.  Unfortunately, I cannot attend, and besides I cannot fit into a normal hot tub.  I have to sit in the ocean and have somebody pour warm water
around me to give it the illusion of a hot tub.
Lynn Nudelman Villigran are you still planning a California reunion?
My sister has seen Mr. Rosov in Boca Raton with his sexy legs.  I just can't picture that.  (I can say that because he can't lower my F-minus.)
Also, regarding my sister: she was at the Emmy Awards a few weeks back and went to all the parties the days before the show and afterwards. She met everybody, including the President -- well, Martin Sheen, who touched her on the shoulder.  However, she did not send me Jennifer Aniston as I requested.
Finally, with the basketball season upon us, let's root for Andy Dolich and the Memphis Grizzlies.  They can be our adopted team and maybe, just maybe, we can get the South High Cheerleaders of 1965 to be the Grizzlies cheerleaders.  Can you girls still jump as high as you used to?

Again, from Barbara Blitfield Pech:  This is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  As a 5-year survivor, I am grateful to the doctors and staff who diagnosed me, treated my cancer, and gave me my life back.  As you may know, The Susan G. Komen foundation sponsors national city-wide events in October, among them The Race for the Cure, of which I am an honored participant (okay, I did a fast walk, but I did finish). This year, I will be running in Miami on the 19th of this month. I will be running in honor and memory of those who have recovered and those who have not.  I would love to add your family and friends' names to my back tag.  Please forward any names that you wish to include.  I have also added my home address should you wish to forward any donation to the cure.  Please make your donation out to Susan G. Komen, Race for the Cure.  Thank you.  7020 SW 127th Court, Miami, Florida 33183-2406
