Update 9-03-02
Hi,
A little late, a little short Labor Day edition. First, Fan mail for Barnet Kellman:
From Peggy Cooper Schwartz: It was such a joy to watch the 2 hour documentary of Murphy Brown--and to hear and watch Barnet's wise and witty commentary. He looked and sounded great!
From Marc Jonas: I saw Barnet on the story of the Murphy Brown show. Seemed like he was doing pretty darn well.
Next, fan mail for dog lovers: To Zelda White Nichols from Allen Moss:
What a wonderfully loving and compassionate dog owner you are! I am sure that your rescued pet knows VERY well what your concern and care means. If only more people would think about adopting older or rescued animals instead of giving the horrible puppy mills continued business by buying from some pet stores which work with these places of horror for animals. The shelters are full of animals desperate for a loving home.
I have seen a picture of Judy's Hartstone's new adoptee and she looks like a real sweetheart! And I am not surprised that Judy, an incredibly caring animal lover, would go this route.
Hope all the falcons have had a great summer and, for some of us, we can now look forward to a wonderful Fall with slightly chilly but sunny days and that incredible fragrant smell of fireplaces and falling leaves in the air. I will never forget those smells walking to and from Fireman's Field for the football games at good old VSS!
Then, fan mail for reunions: From Steve Gootzeit: Through the reunion, I reconnected with Jay Berliner, and we recently had dinner with our wives in New York City. We hadn't seen each other for 21 years -- not 37, but still a large number. In fact, Jay's wife Sharon was a close friend of my wife Carol, from high school, and Carol and I actually "set them up" in 1968. Amazingly, each of their three daughters is now 21 years older than they were in 1981. Anyway, without last April's reunion, Carol and I might never have known how things have happily progressed with their family. There are probably a lot of stories like this, and they have one thing in common: they would not have happened if we hadn't all taken the time to get back together.
Related reunion news: From Lynn Nudelman Villagran: Hi, Rich -- hope this finds you well. I never received any further responses to a get-together up here, other than from Tom Romano. But Nancy and Richie Lobell and I would still like to get together with you, perhaps on a Saturday afternoon or evening in San Francisco? Do you stay up on the weekends ever? Maybe if we decide on a time and place, you can announce it in the Update and others might just show up? Nancy said she would e-mail Richard Gordon to let him know about it, too. So let me know what you think.
(Sounds like a great idea to me. What do people's schedules look like for late September? Or, if that's too soon, late October?)
And just some plain good news, again from Peggy Cooper Schwartz: My husband Les is doing well -- in remission!
Finally, a technical note, especially for Mac users: yeah, the typefaces got especially weird in last week's update. It was the result of using too many different computers to do the editing, and a weird interaction of fonts. Ariel, which I usually use to write, looks a lot like Tahoma, at least on PCs, so I didn't notice the difference. But, later, when I saw the update on a Mac, I realized that Tahoma turns into Times New Roman. (I can only guess what this little demonstration is gonna look like on a Mac.
