Update 8-13-02

Hi,

I had something I wanted to start this off with, and I think it was a reflection on something that happened nationally.  But I forget.  So on to the letters:

From Gayle Ulrich:  I just spent 4 incredible days with Barbara and Robin in Orlando, with Eric, and then Rachael, joining us for a day.  This must be like finding lost family (that you want to find) -- it's hard to put into words.  We drove down cobblestone roads, found a home that looked like Brooklyn Avenue Elementary School, stayed in the hot tub till 1:30 am, then drank wine, ordered breakfast from the 55+ senior menu! (except for Robin who won't pass, even when she is 55!), slept 4 hours -- or not at all -- but still walked the mile trail and shopped at an all-night Walmart.  We had the best time, just being together.  I feel so blessed to have these new friends in my life.  Hope you are all well.

(Your all having so much fun makes me jealous.  All I did this weekend was watch 10 hours of Band of Brothers, for Emmy consideration.  Then I got to watch Dinotopia.)

From Zelda White Nichols:  Looking at the pictures of the New York mini-reunion makes me realize again how sorry I am to be missing all these good times.  If anyone is coming to the San Diego area and would like to get together, please contact me at:  zelda.nichols@cox.net or at:  619-445-8239.

(Speaking of pictures:  if there are pictures of the fun in Orlando, please send them on, and I'll post them.)

From Our Man In Nebraska, Jerry Bittman:  It was great recently speaking with Lynn Nudelman, Robin Feit, Barbara Blitfield, and Paul Zegler, and hearing from Stu Kandel, Andy Dolich, Bob Fiveson, Linda Iaquinto O'Hara, Barbara Endy, and a few others.  But the biggest surprise was hearing from Neil Guberman.  I never thought Goobs got distracted from his girlfriend Barbara long enough to send a letter.
Also, congratulations to Barbara Blitfield Pech, for passing her most important test.  And a reminder that my offer is still open to administer her next exam.  But Barbara is still cancer free -- Yippee!!!!
Locally, my ex-wife finally remarried.  She is truly a wonderful lady, and, afterwards, she and her new husband and the children and I and a few others went out for dinner.  She is still my closest confidante.  OK, you all stop thinking that now you know I am really crazy.  Do I have to remind you that I got married one time in Las Vegas on a bet?  I won $700, and though it cost me $900 for the annulment, we had a great, week-long honeymoon.
Also, here's hoping Fiveson's back is getting better, and that Ziggy gets a role in the remake of Family Affair Barnet Kellman is directing.  And lets keep Rich busy by sending him lots of stuff to print.  Tell us about your kids and your summer and how your dog got the dog next door pregnant -- ANYTHING -- just to keep bugging Rich.  Let's not let this newsletter die until, at least, I do.  After that, you can quit writing.
Peace, good health, and happiness to all.

(So, like, if we all keep writing letters to Jerry, will that keep him alive?  Kind of like clapping for Tinkerbell.  Certainly seems something we can easily manage.)

From  Booker T. Gibson:  Thanks very much for these regular updates.  It's one of those things that makes your class stand out.  Congratulations, also, to Linda Cohen Greenseid and her grandson, Joshua Harris Levine.  And to Rob Kelman, and don't leave out the singer, Jennifer Kelman. (Is she singing somewhere?)
From Linda Cohen Greenseid:  Thanks for Josh's first press release.  I'll tell him he went national.  I really would like to write more now, but I'm on the run.  Back to Jennifer's place.  This is one busy Grandma.

From Irene Saunders Goldstein:  Lots of messages about travel have been posted lately.  My travel will start at the end of the month, when I'll begin to commute to Bloomington, Indiana from my home in Annandale, Virginia for soccer games.  My son Eric -- who's a junior at Indiana University and has worked as manager/player
for the 2001 Big Ten champs and NCAA runner-up soccer team since he got there -- has been asked by the coaches to join the team this season.  Indiana University's soccer team is ranked number one in the nation in the pre-season.  Do I sound like a proud mama?  I am, especially since his grade point average is expected to pull the team GPA up, too!
Wouldn't it be fun to have a Washington, D.C.-based mini-reunion sometime this fall?  This could include Falcons from Richmond, Philadelphia, and all points north and south, and east and west, and also all parents of kids in school in the area or with kids who are old enough to live permanently in the area, and anyone else!  Is that inclusive enough?  Please let me know if you'd like to participate in mid-to-late September or late October:  IreneEdit@compuserve.com

Another mini-reunion reminder:  The next New York area barbecue is scheduled near the end of August.  Anyone interested in being there, please contact Paul DeMartino at either: Pdem070@msn.com or 516-799-1590.

Some fast business:  Linda Ziegler Anthony and Robert Zelin's names have been added to the Class of '65 list on Classmates.com.  If anyone's still a paid-up member of that site, could you please send Linda and Robert our home page address?  And if anyone is still a member, could you tell me?  If all our memberships have finally lapsed, maybe I'll rejoin, just to send on blind e-mail to new folks turning up.  Heck, it's cheaper than going out to dinner and lasts longer (though why am I saying things like "Heck" now?)

From Pete Rosen:  Please pass this question on to Fiveson -- he actually let me know in time about the TV show, and I watched it.  It was fascinating and disturbing, but my question is "Why did I watch it"?  Is there some connection I'm missing or perhaps forgot about?  Got to go -- my hands need washing again.

And from Robert Fiveson:  About TV scheduling -- I am at the mercy of the networks, who, if they think of it, send me an e-mail notice when one of my films will be running.  Often that occurs only a day-or-two before the event, so it doesn't give me a lot of time to tell anyone else.  Still, as the latest piece is about Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, I think the network plans to run it 47 times in a row in the near future.
