Update 1-3-12

Hi,

In case, you're reading them out of order, this is the second newsletter this week, not that it really matters which order you read them in. This one's filled with random news, much of it cheerful.

From Zelda White-Nichols: My husband told me yesterday that “Hey, someone started a monthly newsletter for my graduating class.” He’s from Nebraska, where populations are a bit smaller, and I think he’s been a bit jealous that I’ve been getting a weekly newsletter for so many years.
Also, I'm still trying to find out what happened to three of my William S. Buck schoolmates, who would have been in the class of ’65. One was Elaine Egan, who may have gone on to a private school instead of South. Another was Linda Levine though I’m not sure if she was from Buck or from seventh through ninth grades at South, but I do remember her acting out dramatic plays in the classroom. The third was a girl named Sue (Sullivan maybe?). She was very blond and wore her hair in a pageboy. Does anyone remember any of these people? My address is: zelda.nichols @ high-rock-lake . com

Also about missing friends, from Barbara Dorin Hayden: I'd like to wish you all a great 2012. I'm also posting the following on Facebook, hoping someone will respond.
I just tried calling Andrew Wiegan to wish him a Happy New Year. We speak occasionally, but his phone number is now disconnected, and my search showed that his home on Cloverfield was sold this past June. He's had the same phone and home for 62 years. Anyone have information about Andy? If so, please let me know. My address is: BDorin18 @ aol . com  Thanks.

From Claire Brush Reinhardt: Some more information about Linda Sheldon. She did marry her high school boyfriend, Lenny Fox, who was in my class ('62), and he was also in The Boyfriend. Maybe that is how they met. Linda and Lenny now live in Connecticut.
I was Vince Tampio's assistant for that show. It was his first musical at South and, sadly, my class's senior year. Although our class only had one year with Vince, I know he was a great influence on many of us and helped instill a love of theater in many of us.
Happy Holidays and the best of everything in 2012.

From Eric Hilton: I am very saddened to hear about Marilyn Weiner Kugler passing away. She was a classmate of mine and a very sweet person. A few years ago, at a Boca reunion party, I saw Marilyn for the first time in many years, and she looked radiant. She was still as beautiful and sweet as I remembered but had a certain new glow about her that I noticed when she greeted me with a huge hug and smile. My wife and I were unable to remain for the evening and dinner, but Marilyn still tried to talk me into staying and talking about our time at South. I always hoped to see her again at our next Boca party, and this time, to spend the evening reminiscing about our times together. My condolences to her husband and family. I will always remember Marilyn's smiling face.

From Amy Bentley: Marilyn's brother could have been Neil Weiner, South class of 1970. That was my brother Jonny's class. I know Neil passed away a long while ago, and I think he lived in Brentwood, California. He might have been married, with young children, and I think he died of colon cancer.

Some research from Joanne Shapiro Polner about Marilyn Weiner Kugler: Zaba Search says she was born April 1948. Veromi lists these cities for residences for her during the years: Delray Beach, Florida; Van Nuys, California; Woodland Hills, California; Calabasas, California; Valley Stream, New York.
Veromi also lists these people as her relatives: Kugler, Steven David, 63 (husband?); Stafford, Lindsay Elyse, 36 (daughter?); Kugler, Michael Hamilton, 31 (son?)
I also did some research on Michael and Steven Weiner, as the newsletter mentioned they might be Marilyn's brothers. But it now seems they're not.

Evelyn Roedel Read wrote mentioning that she's been spending a bit too much time with doctors this past year, though they and the nurses have been very kind and supportive. She adds that, unfortunately, she's still going to be in the company of these people for years to come, but that she's very grateful there will be years to come.

Amy Lieberman reminded us that if we happen to be in England this week, or if we suddenly want to "hop a plane," that Billy Valentine will be appearing at the 10th anniversary of the Luxury Soul Weekender at the Hilton, Blackpool, on Saturday, January 7, 2012, along with Keni Burke, Sheree Brown, and the Valentine Brothers.
The Luxury Soul Weekender was conceived in 2003 as an alternative to the Holiday Park orientated events our music has been associated with since the 70s. Our events take the pleasure of soul weekenders to a new level with luxurious accommodation and surroundings to compliment the sophisticated, luxury soul music delivered by live artists and DJs. Luxury Soul Weekenders recognize the diverse range of musical tastes and age ranges of people into the music. Live artists vary from the latest contemporary names making their name in our music to the seasoned veterans. Our DJs compliment this with a wide range of soul orientated styles from across the last five decades.

Linda Cohen Greenseid sent this on: "What did your town look like according to penny postcards? Check out your old stomping grounds during the times of the penny postcard. Click on the state and then on the county name." usgwarchives . org / special / ppcs / ppcs . html

Finally, Andy Dolich wrote saying: Check out Hanukahhead . com I have invented the first ultra lightweight wearable menorah, "The Mehuggenorah." Get a head start on the 2012 Hanukkah season.
