Update 5-17-11
Hi,
The first news I've been waiting for, from Liz King Giordano at South: I received the scholarship checks yesterday in the mail. Thanks again to everyone.
Next, from Linda Cohen Greenseid: One thing age brings on is a lot of pondering (not pandering) and reflection. My pondering lately runs to our college years. I'm wondering how many of us chose a major area of study and actually pursued that career, and if so, was it your only career?
I was an English major, and except for a brief stint in the Valley Stream South library, every one of my jobs after that revolved around math. I still don't know how that happened; I guess it was just a cruel twist of fate. Unfortunately, math was my very worst subject in high school, and I somehow managed to avoid it in college. Anyhow, I just wondered about all of you.
[Rich -- Yep, I used my theater, English, and speech majors -- a triple major because any one of the facets was kind of featherweight. And I'm still using all three parts. Never had much use for some of the courses though: Structural Grammar? An amazing snooze, compounded by the fact it was taught by someone from the original production of Macbeth.]
Unrelated, from Barbara Blitfield Pech: I was looking at some of the pictures Stu Borman has posted on the South 65 blog page, and what do you know? I think it was Judy Hartstone who thought she remembered an early Green Acres phone exchange as "Tilden 4," so here's a validation. She is not only correct; it is the local exchange for the phone number to call for builder information for the seven-room ranch model home shown on the Green Acres community brochure that's also posted on the reunion page. I think this copy of the brochure came from Marc Jonas.
And to Barbara Blitfield Pech from Marilyn Eisbrouch: About the eggs -- from Miss Spitzer and/or Miss White, both Home Ec. teachers, I learned that fresher eggs have more opaque shells, not translucent ones. I continue to buy my eggs this way. I don't remember about the rough/smooth instructions, but if it worked for you all these years, it must have been true, and I'm going to check this out. I hope our teachers realized how much they affected us.
Also, are you related to Neil -- or Neal -- Blitfield?
Some tech advice, from Zelda White Nichols: I am co-moderator of a Yahoo group and wonder if you are experiencing what I do at times but from the opposite end. You use AOL, and that server is notorious for having problems with Mailer-Daemon. Roadrunner does, too. In fact, I know a lot of people who have switched to gmail accounts because of it.
Another way around the problem is doing what my husband and I did. We moved to a somewhat isolated part of North Carolina, and my husband's lifework and business is completely computerized, so he can’t afford not to get e-mail or to have problems with it. So our e-mail address’s is actually a domain he set up for us. You may want to consider doing that.
[Rich -- Thanks, but before I switch entirely, I'm trying some other, smaller approaches. For one thing, you'll notice in some of the following notes that on top of deactivating links as I've done in the past, I'm inserting spaces in the addresses to try to get around spam filters. To use these links or addresses, please remove the spaces. Thanks. And if the links don't work, try writing the person who originally sent them. That person's address is accessible through the address list at the bottom of the newsletter. But, be warned, now you've got to take the spaces out of that address, too.]
From Mark Perlman: I have been having trouble with my old e-mail account, so I've just changed the address. Can you post this as my new e-mail address? Thanks. maperl47 @ gmail.com
[Note the inserted spaces.]
From Sara Cohen Harris: Please add me to the newsletter's e-mail list. I was in the class of 69, and my current e-mail address is: luvlit1 @ aol.com Thanks.
Also, I would like to be put on any listings involved with Valley Stream South High School. Thanks. I presently live in West Palm Beach, Florida. Are there any lists for former Green Acres residents now living in Florida?
[More inserted spaces.]
From Amy Bentley: I took these photos of the former bridge to South High on Saturday, April 30. I took them after our recent discussion re. the bridge. My interest was piqued, and I had to see for myself.

[Rich -- Thanks. I'm sure these are our most recent photos of the bridge, and I suspect some people will be glad to see them. And note the still more inserted spaces.]
From Robert Fiveson: Please watch this video. "Strange Insect Discovered -- BR2 Special Report." A plague that has just been identified in the rain forest is about to spread across the Earth. You might not see this on the news until it's too late.

[Yet more inserted spaces. This is getting boring.]
Paul Zegler wrote that his show iGhost is going well. It's in previews and opens this week. If you're in Los Angeles, please write Paul for details.
And Jay Kinder wrote that next time he's in Los Angeles, he'll try to have lunch or dinner with Paul and me.
And Judy Hartstone and I are going to try to have lunch with Paul once his schedule is more open, probably in mid-to-late June. Anyone else is welcome to join us. We'll probably meet in the same seafood restaurant on the same pier in Ventura where Judy and I met the last time.
