Update 8-3-10

Hi,

To begin with, a couple of notes that slipped by me last week.  I've already apologized to Mary and Andrea.

From Mary Ferranti Khan:  It was great to see those who met on Friday night at the reunion, and I'm sorry I did not make the Saturday festivities.  Next time, I will have to get a room, so I can stay the whole weekend.  Count me in for the 50th!

From Andrea Schwartz Neenan:  Just wanted to thank everyone I met Friday and Saturday nights for welcoming me and allowing me to “crash” your party.  It was wonderful meeting new people and catching up with old friends.  I have no idea how 45 years could have gone by so quickly.  I had a great time!

And some new notes:

From Neil Guberman:  It looks like the talk has already begun for the 50th, and that's great because EVERYBODY should come.  You'll love it, even if you don't think you will.  It's like putting on your favorite jeans, comfortable and relaxed.  And there's the knowledge that these people have shared a unique part of life with you and have now lived through sooooo much more.  Both the old and new stories are always fresh and always fascinating.  It's not about going back to high school.  It's about having an unbelievably grand time with people you know a little or a lot and who know you a little or a lot.  The past just doesn't matter.  It's all good!  And no matter how many of us make it, it's still fantastic.  So no excuses next time, because those who go miss everyone who doesn't -- and, of course, we talk about you!

From Peter Rosen:  In addition to Neil's sixteen pictures, here are eight I took.

From Valerie Nelson Gillen:  Please thank everyone for their very generous gift certificate.  It was very thoughtful of you all.

[Rich -- You're welcome.  But the pleasure was absolutely ours.]

From Marc Jonas:  After all your comments about how well dressed I was, next time, I'm sporting a grubby T-shirt.

From Bernice Massa Brown:  July 16th -- I'm just hearing about the reunion parties now, and I got so excited, thinking I might make one of them.  But as I read your Facebook post, it's for this weekend, and I won't be in the area until the 23rd of July.  My son -- the last one -- is getting married, HOORAH! and I'll be up for the week.  Too bad -- it could have been an even better vacation seeing everyone.  But, hopefully, I'll make another reunion in the near future.  Meanwhile, my e-mail address is: beatrice.brown@comcast.net.  I would appreciate it if you'd add me to the list again.  Have a great weekend, and please tell everyone I said, "hi."

From Irene Saunders Goldstein:  We missed seeing Jerry Bittman at the 45th reunion, but his famous cousin, chef Mark Bittman, will speak in Washington, DC, on Tuesday, October 5th.  I see this as an opportunity for classmates in-and-around the nation’s capital to get together and listen and talk about eating -- and maybe even share a meal or a drink before or after the 7 PM presentation.  If anyone’s interested, I'll coordinate this outing.  Please write me at:  ireneEdit@comcast.net.  More details next week.  And, Jerry, will you come, too?

From Stu Borman:  Peggy Cooper's comment about get-togethers suggests that it would really be great if home cities of class members could be listed along with the e-mail addresses online.

[Rich -- I think that's a problem with security for some of the women.  There have been overly friendly overtures.]

From Barbara Blitfield Pech:  Just a thought while we are all mentioning the planned 50th in five years -- why wait?  Heck, we didn't wait for the 40th, and remember the still-amazing 37th?
Perhaps, we can get together sooner.  The majority of us will be turning 65 in another two years.  Wouldn't it be "a blast from the past" to honor the year and the years with a class birthday and reunion to celebrate?
As I said, just a thought.  I'm open to hearing no less than 65 opinions and feedback.

From Steve Gootzeit:  I agree with Judy Hartstone on the advance 50th reunion planning, since it should help attendance.

In other cultural activity:

From Emily Kleinman Schreiber:  My son Mike's book, True Hip Hop, has been published and will be on the shelves August 17th.  Meanwhile, Google "Mike Schreiber, Barnes & Noble," and you can see the book, read about it, and maybe buy it.

From Arlene Ainbinder Lynn:  Wednesday, August 4th, at the band shell on the Valley Stream Green -- just behind the Village Hall -- the band RISKY BUSINESS will be performing from 8 to 10 PM.  The rain date is Monday, August 9th.
South High Alumni will be attending.  Wear red and white, and look for the red and white balloons.  Bring your lawn chairs or blankets, and join us on the great lawn for some summer music and fun.

And from Paulinda Schimmel:  If you're interested in purchasing a limited edition, stunning, vibrant, giclee print of one of Mary Sipp Green's paintings, with a Certificate of Authenticity, please contact me at: Paulinda1@att.net.

[Rich -- Finally, I've updated the online class e-mail address list.  That's the link that's almost always at the bottom of these notes.  You might want to check to confirm that I got your address right.  If I haven't, please let me know.  Also, if you were in a class other than '65, you might want to check that I got your year right.  For some people, I just have question marks.
There were also a half-dozen nice notes from people seconding Marc Jonas and Henry Gabbay's opinion that I'd never wear brown shoes with a blue suit.  Thanks.  I've forwarded the notes directly to Emily.]
