Update 6-28-11
Hi,
A short update from the road. As with last week, it's early, but I'm not sure when I'll be at a full-sized computer again, and the only electronics I'm carrying is my phone. I'm not about to try to edit and send a newsletter using that tiny keyboard.
The previously asked question, from Eric Hilton: Can anyone tell me when and why South's colors were changed to red and white?
From Helen David: It had to be when I parked my two-tone, red-and-white Oldsmobile Cutlass in space number 4 in the Jedwood lot. The color combination was obviously irresistible.
From Bernie O'Brien: In addition to what I sent in last week about the Parents' club feeling red and gray were too drab, it was also less expensive for athletic uniforms to be purchased in the red/white combination rather than the red/gray. We started making the change in my first year as athletic director at South, after I showed principal James Bergan and the business manager that buying the standard red/white uniforms would save money. Thus, the change went into being.
As usual, best to all.
Unrelated, from Mary Sipp-Green: Thank you so much for the mention of my newest work in last week's newsletter. The opening last Wednesday night was well attended. A few paintings sold, and, in general, I think it all looked pretty good. Too bad you live so far away. Have a good vacation.
[Rich -- Actually, I'm hoping to be in New York next week, and I'm going to try to stop in to see Mary's recent paintings at the Wally Findlay Gallery. If you can't get to New York, you can possibly see some of the paintings online at: www. wallyfindlay . com.]
Also unrelated, about Barnet Kellman, who should be given congratulations for the great news that he's been approved for tenure at the University of Southern California as a full professor. As Barnet said, "Send me your children and grandchildren."
Another reminder that Booker Gibson Night at the Irish Coffee Pub in East Islip is on Wednesday, July 13th, starting at 6:30. If you're interested in attending, please contact Claire Brush Reinhardt at: reino @ optonline . net
Finally, from Zelda White Nichols: Please thank whoever submitted the information regarding the poem I sent in celebrating the love of cats and dogs. I should have mentioned at the bottom that I thought the author was unknown because the poem was sent to me by a member of a Yahoo group that I monitor for a breed of cat that we in that group have.
It's nice to know that the poem is actually called The Answer (to an Adopted Child) and that it was written by Fleur Conkling Heyliger. I will be more than happy to pass this information on to my group. I always am amazed by how one tidbit of information can affect so many people .
