Update 11-21-05

Hey,

The editor has two cars in the shop, twelve people coming for dinner Thursday, and a dog that needs to be picked up at the vet, so some unedited e-mail.  First, about plans for the January gathering in Florida:

From Barbara Blitfield Pech to Terri Donohue Calamari:  As always I trust this note finds you well. I am making this response to your phone call "open" as I do want to keep everyone on the same page, as your suggestion left on my voice mail, while lovely, not necessarily best case senerio. As you mentioned dinner at your house fri, then movng dinner across state to my house saturday and plans for sunday...[WHERE TO START..] The "best case senerio" might just be: brunch on the west coast, central to all, and placing us all at one event together; ie: You,Gayle, Eric and Bea are on the west coast...unless i go to the w. caost to see them..it is unlikely they will travel to Miami and stay over..when we can all ,plus [Miami -Flt Lauderdale, Palm Beach] Uncle Hy, Peg , Judy, Marc..can easily drive to the Naples [area] within a 2 hour [average] one day bk & forth...Also, I cannot offer my home for a dinner party. While I thank you for the gracious advisement that "you would to take care of everything"...again, I cannot host a dinner party...Keeping in mind that I am in Kendall Lake's, while lovely..it is a very suburban sprawl of sub-divisions, schools and strip malls...not an evening mecca for out of towners...I think the consideration of a leisurely sunday brunch offers the option of coming into the area the night before and having dinner at your home [sat] and sunday brunch, at the hotel. Again, I do not have the liberty of the 3 day weekend flex time, and as I earlier mentioned, I have a corporate trade show that same weekned, that might preclide me from seeing you at all...but I am keeping options and hoping that my suggestion is reviewed for reason's as above...If anyone wishes to get into the chat..please cc or reply to all...65 Hugs..B>]

From Eric Hilton to Barbara Blitfield Pech: I must have been sleeping during these e-mails. Would you be kind enough to read back every word you had muttered in the last 3 weeks to bring me up to speed? When and where, on the West coast were you thinking of a South High Reunion? I too do not have the Luxury of an entire weekend, but could do a Sat & Sunday, if it was in driving distance from Sarasota. Could I wear my old Gym shorts?? I don't think I've washed them since Mr. Argenzio kicked the crap out of me in wrestling class.

From Barbara Blitfield Pech to Eric Hilton: To date we haven't even looked at any place, Terri & I brainstormed the date and it has been noted in the reunion pages for M.L.K.weekend 1/15.. my orig. idea was a sunday brunch on the west coast [i met the naples ritz carlton concieage on the return flight from the 40th...i sent a few preliminary "feeler e-mail's" and got some positive feedback... terry left me a v/m with a split dinner suggestion that i was responding to her on..[sorry for e-bonic bad english uncle hy..]. You can only wear your gym shorts if we can wear ours...you do remember them... hopsital yellow... sewn in bloomers under a one piece snap front mini jumpsuit... real fashion statement...a real hot look & nice touch for a reunion brunch! 'Ya might wanna rethink that gym short consideration, pleeze.... 65 hugs..B>]

From Pete Rosen to Eric Hilton: What about the Tampa/St. Pete area for easy access by plane. Check out our Yearbook for a study of gym shorts and Argenzio.

From Barbara Blitfield Pech to Peter Rosen: hi...would love to give thought to tampa/st pete..but naples area is florida central for "us locals" to have an equal drive time from all area's ....tampa/st pete is a 5 hour drive from anywhere on the east coast.. mia/ft lauderdale/boca, naples is 2, as w/b coming from sarasota, port charlotte and where ever gayle is in the end of the world., in a town that no-one has ever heard of [ love ya gayle/ wink wink...]...the idea is to keep it...simple...a day trip...hope this doesn't put off any thought's you might be having to join us...?

From Eric (still a wise ass) Hilton to Pete Rosen: Tampa/St Pete Is easy access by plane and usually discounted Jet Blue tickets from NY. I am about an hour south of there. Gayle is about 2.5 hrs north of there, but almost 4.5 hrs north of Barbara and 4 hrs north of Hy. I'm not sure where everyone else in FL Lives. But if we had it in beautiful Sarasota, I could ride my bike or walk there. I don't have the 65 yearbook. Since I was a real wise ass, and puberty was just setting in, Miss. Arvintides failed me. (in fact, so did Miss. Dillback), so I had to repeat 7th grade and graduated in '66. You'll just have to scan the Gym Shorts & Argenzo pages for me.

Next, some mail about the party in New York last week:

From Paul DeMartino:  just quickly to let you know that we had an enjoyable meeting of  various VSS classes yesterday. Besides Robin Feit, Joan Aries, Dennis Shapiro, Larry Coleman, Kenny Brown & me from '65, there were Emily Kleinman Schreiber '61, Barbara Brown & Arty Yngstrom '69 &  Pat Yngstrom '67. We hadn't seen Kenny Brown since graduation & it was good to see him and recall how he took a hacksaw to the roof of his black '52 Chevy and turned it into a convertible a few weeks before graduation.  Of course it rained 2 days later & he had a blue tarp covering the car in the school lot. He said that later he brought Paul Zeilger's VW Bug convertible since he needed one with a roof. We had great fun & Emily mentioned that on Nov.30 there is a meeting to start a South High Alumni Association. Dennis & I hope to attend & Arty Y. said he also will be there. Also this March 12 is the 50th Anniversary of VSS & a celebration is planned by the school. I'll forward the details as I discover them.  Have a wonderful Thanksgiving

And from Emily Kleinman Schreiber:  I did attend the mini-reunion today and those who showed up had a good time -- myself included.  Of course I have some pics to share with you, but I have to get them into my computer.  I'll take care of that very soon.

Not about parties.  Just news:

From Jerry Bittman:    How ironic that one of the hippest guys, Paul Z. is going into the hospital on the 29th for a hip replacement.  And then 6 weeks later he is having the other hip replaced.   And then 6 weeks after that he will be working at Heidi Fleiss' new brothel in Nevada.  Zig we all wish you a speedy recovery and also congratulations on the 120 pounds you have lost.

From Robert Fiveson:  It's been a while since the update has made me laugh  - what with all the natural disasters, bad health, rotting legs etc....but the guy who has uncovered the truth about Americans eating their pets - and the intrigue surrounding it - was great. I am quite sure his first book was about the conspiracy messages contained within the movement of clouds. A good trend. Rotting flesh disease, followed by a secret national Epicurean  expose! I think you are on the verge of a breakthrough in redefining the entire concept of class updates - to class tabloids. A much more interesting direction! Did you know one of our classmates is having an affair with his cat while wearing lederhosen!?

From Bernie Scheidt:  I don't know if anyone noticed that Larry Miller was on Desperate Housewives last sunday playing a very interesting character, who enjoys making home video's! Need I say more.

About a different party:

From Barbara Blitfield Pech:  this birhtday got me to thinkin...as we are all [more or less] born in '47, and we will [all] be turing that six #...cough cough, sputter...how about a reunion/60's party in 2007...seems [to me] that it's far enough ahead to give us time to plan..and not that far ahead to wait for it to happen...& heck, it would sure make it all...ok to turn 6666...[still can't get past the 1st. #...] together...big b'day cake...we can even have a 60's theme...w/ a birthday tie-in...hat's balloons..some pin the tail on some south icon[ thinking bergen, any guidence con..]..finally play a good game of spin the  champagne bottle...just silly stuff...hey,.silly string...well hell, if you can't "do it' at sixty..[ ouch finally spit it out..] then when the heck can ya...?...anyway, just a thought..hope you think it has some..credability..and that i haven't hit the "dottering trail"....[feedback...?] 65 hugs..B>]

From Pete Rosen to Barbara Blitfield Pech:  I'm in.

From Grace Dibble Kincade to Barbara Blitfield Pech:  You have the best ideas!  Sounds good to me.  It could be one big birthday party.

Finally, another reminder about that important meeting next week:  The South High Alumni Association planning meeting will be at South on Wednesday, November 30th at 7:00 PM.  For further information, please contact Emily Kleinman Schreiber at: Cre8em@aol.com.

And Happy Thanksgiving.
