Update 7-27-10

Hi,

Follow-up notes from the reunion:

From Peggy Cooper Schwartz:  What a great weekend it was.  It was a small group -- a lot of bonding -- kind of a Big Chill feel to it.  Now, on to the 50th (ouch!).  If anyone is down in The Sunshine State, please let me know -- I'd love to get together.

From Irene Saunders Goldstein:  I've just spent one of the warmest, most wonderful weekends in recent history at our 45th. I cannot wait until our 50th, and I hope our classmates who were unable to attend can attend next time.

From Booker Gibson:  It was so great seeing "the gang" last Saturday.  Now, I'm anxiously awaiting pictures.  Until then, thanks for really making my day.  Please say "hello" to everybody.

Moss in Maine here.  Thanks for the acknowledgement, with Judy and Stu, for getting the ball rolling.  I only wish I had been there.
No surprise that folks had a great time. It still amazes me sometimes to think how our classmates have maintained a special bond with each other.  So many folks I talk to are astonished by our reunions.  The usual comment is:  "You still keep in touch with folks from your high school?"  Yes, we do, and this bodes well for the 50th.
OK, I have said it, so it is now official in the newsletter.  I would think the 50th would really be special for all of us, and I would hope that folks who couldn't make any of the other reunions would make the one in 2015.  Believe me, if I am still here, I will be there!  Hope everyone has a great rest of the summer.

From Ellen Epstein Silver:  Thanks so much for the "Reader's Digest" version of this fabulous weekend.  For those of us who couldn't join the rest of you, it was nice to hear about all the fun times you had.  Let's hope there will be another reunion planned  if not sooner, certainly, the 50th.  Now, we just need to see the pictures when Stu gets to post them.

From Lynn Nudelman Villagran:  Sounds like a great time was had by all.  Glad it all worked out.  I'm looking forward to seeing the photos.

About some of those photos, from Neil Guberman to Stu Borman:  Hi, Stu.  I hope you can get these photos as I'm just awful at this computer stuff.  I can't even figure out how to label them with everyone's names.  So I hope all is well with you and hope there's a way you can post these.

And from Stu:  Unfortunately, it's too difficult for me to post the photos right now.  I'm writing from a fitness club computer in downtown Hong Kong.  The computer is an Apple, and I don't know how to use Apples.  It took me about 20 minutes to increase the size of the browser window, and I still wasn't able to maximize it completely, for all that.  So I'll post your photos when I get home to the United States in August.

[Rich -- Stu was able to figure out who most of the people in Neil's photos were, and I'll identify the rest of the people tomorrow.  Meanwhile, if anyone has more photos to send, Stu's address is: sborman@gmail.com.]

From Judy Hartstone:  Thanks so much for last week’s newsy newsletter.  The vivid rendition of the details of the reunion helped those of us who couldn’t be there share the camaraderie and fun.  (Any photos of  Marc Jonas in his sartorial splendor?)
I have a suggestion to put forward for the 50th reunion:  Since the location has proven to be the best choice for the greatest number of people, let’s keep it there and pick a date at least a year in advance so people can plan their personal calendars around that date and, if necessary, save up for the cost of attending.  And let’s have a Saturday night dinner/dance in the banquet room like we had for the 37th.  If having the banquet takes a down payment and commitment from people, at least we’ll have plenty of time to make it happen.
If everyone really misses the debate part of the process, we could take a poll now to see which season people prefer.

From Barnet Kellman:  Thanks for the great reunion roundup.   Who is the actress I directed?

[Rich -- I already wrote this to Barnet, but there's no reason to make a mystery of it:  Her Equity name is Fran Thomas, and she writes and sings under her actual name, Freyda Thomas.]

From Hy Rosov:  Sounds like you all had a ball.  I read your account of the festivities and  remembered the faces of  so many of the names of the attendees.  I couldn't help but wonder what became of so many of my former students.  It would be a joy to me to hear from some of them, if only a line or two.  My e-mail address is:  chaihy@aol.com.

A quick correction from Arlene Ainbinder Lynn:  I'm class of 1966.  XOXO

And another from Barbara Brill Frohman:  Please correct my e-mail address.  It's:  bfelizbeth@yahoo.com.  No A in Elizabeth.  Thanks.

[Rich -- Sorry, Arlene and Barbara.  Also, Irene Saunders Goldstein reminds me that our online class address list is embarrassingly out of date.  As I've promised before, I'll try to correct it soon.  Finally, a note I'm uncomfortable adding, but I tried to persuade Marc and Henry otherwise and failed.  My reasoning:  I'm doing this for fun, not recognition, and I'm really not anyone's idea of a good role model.]

A really nice letter from Marc Jonas:

Re: Class of 1965 -- Nomination for Alumni Award

Dear Ms. Henry:

As a member of the Class of 1965, I would like to nominate Rich Eisbrouch for distinguished alumnus recognition.
For over 10 years, Rich has single-handedly managed our class’s reunion web site.  His persistent and timeless efforts have resulted in not only a series of successful reunion get-togethers, but they also have provided a wonderful incentive and opportunity for Class of 1965 alumni and alumnae to maintain, renew, or establish friendships with their fellow alumni.
As I recall, the reunion which took place in Hauppauge attracted well over 100 alums residing all over the United States, and in Europe as well.
These opportunities allowed us to appreciate the personal and public successes of our peers and, equally as important, to fully consider the value of our years at South High.
I know that my fellow alumnus, Henry Gabbay, joins in this effort to nominate Rich Eisbrouch for well-deserved recognition.
Perhaps you may consider this as my last official act as former president of the South High School Student Council.
    Very truly yours,

Marc D. Jonas
