Related, from Emily Kleinman-Schreiber: A couple of things. Did you know there's a South alumni site on Facebook? You might want to post your reunion plans there. Also, will it be a strictly class of '65 party, or can some reunion crashers join the fun? And what's the name of that pizza place in Rockville Centre?
[Rich -- I'm sure, since she's good at this, Barbara Blitfield Pech will list our reunion plans on Facebook. I'm as sure that anyone's welcome to the party. As for the name of the restaurant in Rockville Centre: Robin Feit Baker, Paul DeMartino, and Dennis Shapiro all assure me it's called Monaghan's Bar & Restaurant and that it's still in business.
Also, no one's volunteered to inspect hotel and motel rooms in Rockville Centre, but it's not like we're talking about vast unknowns in this Internet age. I'm pretty sure web sites exist for all these places. People who want to stay in the motels may be comfortable deciding and choosing from that information. But, by now, it seems we've moved the reunion to Rockville Centre from Hauppauge.]
From Barbara Blitfield-Pech: Are you sure the class of '68 is having its reunion in Plainfield and not Plainview? Last heard, Plainfield was still in New Jersey.
[Rich -- Yep, I did the same thing with Bloomington, Indiana, and Bloomfield, New Jersey, yesterday.]
From Larry Rugen: Has there been a definite reunion date set, and I missed it?
[Rich -- In the December 1st update, after sensing that most people wanted this party in the summer, I tentatively chose Friday, July 16, 2010 through Sunday, July 18, 2010 for the reunion. Since no one objected and no one's come up with a better date, it seems that's what we're going with.]
From Steve Cahn: Please thank Joanne Shapiro Polner for her research on the Cagan brothers. Those were some great leads, which I will follow up today and tomorrow. Also, I think Valerie Nelson Gillen lived on the same block -- Brook Road -- as the Cagans, just a few houses down.
From Mary Sipp-Green: First, best regards to all from very snowy Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Next, two classmates and friends, Mary Sipp-Green and Paulinda Schimmel, are now working together in a business called Riverwalk Printworks. They are selling fine art, limited edition giclee prints of Mary's landscape paintings. Each print is made on a German etching paper and comes signed and numbered with a certificate of authenticity. They presently have four images on their web-site: marysippgreen.com. Paulinda will be Mary's sales rep to galleries, art consultants, and other venues. If you are interested, please contact her for more information or with any comments you might have. Her e-mail address is: Paulinda1@att.net
Finally, a joke, forwarded by Emily Kleinman-Schreiber: A group of forty-year-olds discuss where they should meet for dinner. Finally, they agree on the Gasthaus Gutenberger restaurant because the waitresses wear low-cut blouses and the waiters tight pants.
At fifty, the group meets again, after some discussion. Finally, they agree to meet at the Gasthaus Gutenberger because the food is excellent and the wine selection extensive.
At sixty, the group again discusses where to meet. Finally, they agree on the Gasthaus Gutenberger because they can eat in peace-and-quiet, and the restaurant is smoke-free.
At seventy, the group once more discusses where to meet. Finally, they agree on the Gasthaus Gutenberger because there's a nice Senior discount.
At eighty, a somewhat smaller group considers meeting. Finally, they agree on the Gasthaus Gutenberger because the restaurant has an elevator and is wheelchair-accessible.
At ninety, the group meets for what many think may be the last time. After some discussion, they finally agree on the Gasthaus Gutenberger because they've never been there before.
