Update 4-6-10
Hi,
First, the fundraising for the Gibson / Tampio scholarships is almost done. Another $150 came in this week. Added to the nearly $600 we already had, that leaves only $250 to go.
Again, please send your checks to: Rich Eisbrouch, 23030 Dolorosa Street, Woodland Hills, California 91367. And indicate which scholarship you'd like to support. Thanks.
In reunion news, from Eric Hilton: Is there a date set for the reunion at this time? If so, I must have missed it.
Similarly, from Ira Mitzner: What's the date of the reunion?
[Rich -- It was in last week's newsletter, at the end of the list of people who were tentatively planning to come to the party. When Eric and Ira's questions came in, I realized people might not have read any further than the top of the list, feeling they'd already seen it before and thinking that was the end of the update. That's my bad planning because there were a half-dozen other notes after the list. Now, I know to put the list last.
In any case, here's the reunion information again:
The date: Friday, July 16th to Sunday, July 18th
The place: Hyatt Regency Wind Watch in Hauppauge, New York
The phone number: 631-784-1234
The promo: The hotel is on 230 acres in the center of Long Island, with complimentary shuttles to Islip airport and Ronkonkoma train station. It offers a championship 18-hole golf course and driving range, indoor and outdoor pools, a gym, a softball field, and courts for tennis, basketball, and volleyball. The 360 guestrooms offer pillowtop mattresses, large desks, complimentary weekday newspapers, and high-speed Internet access. 78% of travelers (18 out of 23) recommend this hotel.]
From Allen Moss in Maine: THANK YOU, IRENE, on behalf of all of us!
From Peter Rosen: Way to go, Irene. All action and no talk; just the way I like my women. I just made my reservations and should be arriving early afternoon Friday. Already getting excited.
From Valerie Nelson Gillen: I could help entice the group to come for a pool / barbeque party. I live one block from the West Sayville Golf Course, which also has four tennis courts. It's a public course. And eating here is certainly cheaper for the group than the hotel... and I think my food is better! Ha! But I will leave it up to the group to finally decide, and I will join you, wherever.
If the Hyatt Regency has shuttle service from the Long Island Railroad, that will help people flying into Kennedy. There's a $5 shuttle train that takes people from JFK to the Jamaica train station, where they can get a train to Huntington. Then, the Hyatt shuttle can pick them up from there.
From Marilyn Horowitz Goldhammer: Plans for the reunion sound great, but, unfortunately, I will be on vacation then and out of the country. I’m still living in the D.C. area and working at American University. If there are plans for a local gathering at some point, please count me in. Meanwhile, thanks, everyone, for keeping in touch.
From Judy Hartstone: Now that push has come to shove, and the date has been set, I regretfully have to take my name off the list of those committed to the reunion. I would love to see everyone, but I have to be at a wedding in California that weekend.
From Barbara Blitfield Pech: While I applaud and thank Irene for making an executive decision, again, this location will just not work for me as I cannot fly directly from Miami, and the next closest airport is a great distance, so the expense and time constraint make it not a viable option. Also, again, Hauppauge is an area of the Island that is not close to Valley Stream, where I had hoped to see friends, family, and even attend a religious service in my family temple without the need of a rental car or the worry about driving from an area where I have no familiar guidelines. So, at this time, I have to weigh my final decision to attend a very much looked forward to reunion and take myself off the "definite" list.
Unrelated to the party, from Eric Hilton: And just to let you know, growing up in the family of a New York furrier, I had a coonskin hat made for me by my dad when I was just a little tyke. I felt so cool having a real fur hat. Later, as I got older, I had a genuine leopard guitar strap, which was cooler than any other guitarist's. I’m feeling so guilty that some endangered animal gave its skin so a Rock 'n' Roll guy could wear some poor leopard around his neck. Now, I’d trade that any day.......for beaver.
A note that Terri Donohue Calamari is back home in Naples, Florida, after her vacation.
From Robert Fiveson: Our son, Josh, is about the graduate with straight A's, cum laude with special honors, in Administration of Justice, but, somehow, he found time to produce this absolutely hilarious prank video. Stay with it, and you will laugh well. http://www.break.com/usercontent/2010/3/22/italian-birthday-cake-1785553
