Update 7-13-10
Hi,
Some notes before the parties.
First, my cell phone number's been in the updates for the past two weeks, but it appears it was too well embedded for people to see clearly. Since cell phones may be our main way of communication this weekend, people need to have my number.
Rich's Cell Phone: 818-667-5271
And, since cell phones have been known to fail, we need a back-up number, which Peter Rosen has volunteered.
Peter's Cell Phone: 404-735-7412
At any given moment, from Friday at 5 PM till Sunday at noon, one of us should know where the party is.
Also, Friday night at the hotel bar, I'll probably be wearing the red, South baseball cap that former South principal Steve Lando gave me some years back. That should make our party easy to spot. And I'm still six-foot-four.
Some last minute RSVPs:
From Mary Ferranti Khan: I was so disappointed that I missed the 40th reunion, so I am going to try and join up with everyone Friday night, even though I will not be staying at the hotel. Hope to see you all there.
From Barbara Brill: Hello. Looking forward to seeing everyone. I'll probably show up Friday evening and would love to join the group Saturday to see Booker Gibson. Thanks, everyone, for arranging this. Gladly share my e-mail address: bfelizabeth@yahoo.com
Booker writes: Next Saturday, I will try to get to the Pub before 5.
[Rich -- And we'll try to have a group there to meet you.]
From Ellen Sue Brody Pilger: Gosh, I'm feeling nostalgic reading all of these plans. Besides all of the reunion festivities, our nephew is having a "Garlic Festival" on the organic farm he manages just down the road from where the '65ers will gather this weekend. Many dear family members will be there. I can't make it but am thoroughly enjoying everything about our new home in the Rockies. Have a blast at the reunion.
From Roz Minsky Bobrow Hahn: I am sorry to say that I will be unable to attend the reunion this weekend.
Please say "hi" to all. Hope to see many of you next time!
On a semi-related matter, Judy Peters Sylvan asked: Rich, will your shorts be making the trip?
[Rich -- And I wrote Judy: Nah, after five years, they're a bit worn for Valerie's swimming pool. But I have other conservative tan shorts as subs.
And this is a reminder for everyone interested to bring bathing suits.]
Note: next week's update -- with the reunion news -- won't arrive till at least Friday, July 23rd. I'll be staying at my mother's computerless house for some days after the reunion, and I'm traveling with minimum electronics.
It would also help if all photos to be shared from the parties were sent directly to Stu Borman at: sborman@gmail.com . We'll still have to wait till Stu gets back from Asia, but this should shorten the delay before the pictures are posted to the class photo site. And please identify the people in the photos and send their names along.
Now, it's time to finish packing.
The reunion dates: Friday, July 16th to Sunday, July 18th
The hotel: Hyatt Regency Wind Watch, 1717 Motor Parkway, Hauppauge, New York 11788 631-784-1234
The parties:
Friday night, we meet at the hotel bar at 5 PM. We eat and drink there or continue on to dinner, either in the hotel or somewhere nearby, coordinating our migration with later-arriving people by cell phones.
Saturday morning, we meet as we choose for breakfast, coordinating, as necessary, by cell phones.
Saturday afternoon, around 12, we move to Valerie's, carpooling as needed.
Saturday evening, we move off to dinner, or we stay put for dinner and order in, or some of us slip off to hear Booker play, and then we coordinate with the others by phone and regroup, possibly still at Valerie's.
Way Later Saturday evening, we return to the hotel, possibly to the bar if it's still open, otherwise -- quietly -- to someone's room.
Sunday morning, we again meet as we choose for breakfast, coordinating, as necessary, by cell phones. Then we say "goodbye."
Valerie Nelson Gillen's house: 32 Atlantic Avenue, West Sayville, New York 11796. 631-567-5593.
From the hotel: Go east on Veteran's Highway -- Route 454 -- make a right turn on Lakeland Avenue, stay straight on that road toward Sayville, and after you cross the railroad tracks, go to the traffic light and make a right. You'll be on Main Street -- Montauk Highway. Go through town, pass the 7/11 on the left, pass the firehouse also on the left at the traffic light -- Chase Bank is on corner. Make a left on Atlantic Avenue, and our house is the 6th on the right side of road.
The Irish Coffee Pub, 131 Carleton Avenue, East Islip, New York 11730. 631-277-0007
