Update 10-30-01

Yeah, well,

In our effort to be polite to each other, just the way we were raised, rather than clearly voting once, many of us said a variation of, "Well, I really don't want to come on that day, but if everyone else does, I'll see what I can do."  So though only 48 people voted, I have 76 votes.

Which break down as follows:

Friday, November 23rd:         10

Saturday, November 24th:     15

Saturday, December 29th:     22

Spring:                                29

Something important we should keep in mind:  almost everyone who said yes for the Fall, didn't rule out the Spring.  While almost everyone who said yes for Spring, mentioned Fall was no good.

And many people said, "Let's do it when the most people can be there."

And something weird, statistically:  one reason we were thinking about a quick Fall reunion is so many people still live in the New York area (we were figuring around 70).  But of the 47 people voting, only 13 came from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, or Pennsylvania.

Also, and this is a guess:  it may be that 47 people are about all we're ever gonna interest in a reunion anyway---along with their husbands or wives.  And that's not far from how many came to the '86 reunion.

My recommendation:  Let's wait till Spring, when the most people can be there.

Also, specifically in reaction to something said below, let's quickly pick a weekend in the Spring:  Passover and Easter are early this year, on March 28th and 31st.  That leaves all the April weekends and half of May's free (just Mother's Day on the 12th and Memorial Day on the 27th).
 000200000EE300000638 EDD,
So please send me your preferred dates.  Soon.  Otherwise, we---and we may be Paul DeMartino and me, after he checks out Long Island restaurants---will pick something arbitrary.  Probably late in May, when it's warm.  Possibly Saturday, May 18th.

Meanwhile, some specific comments:

Ray Staley:  I would think the weekend following Thanksgiving to be a bad choice for most folks.  Although for me it just happens to a good choice because we have tix to a Ranger game for Sunday, November 25th.

Marc Jonas:  I like the fall.  Can't wait for the Long Island traffic.  Love Staten Island, this time of year.

Peggy Galinger Menaker:  One other thing, if the majority wants the spring, then let's pick a date now, so we can all put it on our calendars and not tie it up with something else.  So many people have to make plans ahead.

Anonymous:  My concern is for people who need the time to make travel arrangements and lose weight.

Irene Saunders Goldstein:  My preference would be to plan now for a late March or
early May weekend extravaganza at a New York-area hotel.  That would make it
easier, especially for us out-of-towners, to enjoy informal mini-reunions on-site.

Linda Chanes Abel:  I just wanted to point out that the Saturday you mentioned in December, the 30th, is actually a Sunday.  (Rich:  yeah, well, I'm an idiot, and was looking at a December 2000 calendar.)

Nancy Garfield:  It's not only my birthday on October 24th, it's also Terry Shields'.  And Judy Schulman's is on the 31st.

Barbara Blitfield Pech:  I would prefer something longer than an afternoon.  Can't we do, at least, a Saturday brunch, then an evening party, and a Sunday breakfast?  So all the trip preparations (diets, botox, lipo, hair plugs...) get some extended coverage.

Ira Mitzner:  The Thanksgiving dates are bad for two reasons:  (1) many of us have kids home from college and (2) it is the most difficult travel weekend for those
of us out of town.

Marilyn Horowitz Goldhammer:  Speaking of crossword puzzles, I have always done the Sunday New York Times puzzle, and I've wondered if the Richard Silvestri who created some of the puzzles was the same person who went to school with us.  (Yep, he is.  He also teaches Math at Suny Nassau.  There used to be a picture of him, at a Crossword Convention, available through the Internet.  You could access it through Google.com.)

Lynn Nudelman Villagran:  Christmas break, I'll be busy with a Nudelman family reunion in California.  Maybe we can have a California reunion sometime for the West Coast alumni.

Rob Kelman:  If it's decided to have the reunion in '02, I will try to make it.  Meanwhile, everyone take care.  And best wishes to all for happiness and health, good times with good friends, and memories to last a lifetime.

Marc Goldberg:  I vote Yes if you hold it in Seattle.  If not, I vote Vegetarian.

Diane Fruzzetti: The holiday season is the worst time to travel.  And weather is too much of an issue.

Mark Perlman:  I wish that we could hear from more of the alumni as well as some more of the teachers.  (Rich:  Yeah, it's great to get notes from everyone, and I try to include as many people as possible.  Hy Rosov just gave me an e-mail address for Toni Rea.  It's the same address I had this spring, and I sent her a note then, but it was returned as undeliverable.  This time it didn't bounce back, but I haven't heard from her yet, either.)

Finally, from Terri Donohue Calamari:  I want to report that my son is on an aircraft carrier headed to the Middle East. He's a great kid, kind of an Irish-Italian Greg Kaplan type. The Taliban doesn't have a chance.
