Update 2-26-02

Hey,

Again, business first:

Paul DeMartino's address:  (Please remember to make your check out to Paul DeMartino, note South '65 Reunion somewhere on it, indicate how many people it covers at $45 per dinner for Saturday night, and, if you wish, add a contribution toward the hospitality suite.)
       Paul DeMartino
       10 Saltaire Place
       Massapequa, New York  11758

A second reminder of the coming informal New York gathering:
When:    Saturday, March 9, 2002  1:00 PM
Where:   Lily Flanagans, 279 Sunrise Highway, Rockville Centre
Contact: Paul DeMartino: PINA_1@msn.com or 516-799-1590  (Or just show up.)
Expected so far:  Danny Stellabotte, Dennis Shapiro, Barbara Endy, Robin Feit, Mark Yetman, Barbara Brill, Kenny Nolan, Joan Aries, Jay Gladky, Tom Buck, and Paul DeMartino.

A social note:  Terri has sent out nicely printed invitations---beginning with the Henry Brooks Adams quotation A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops---to as many of the suggested teachers that we were able to find.  So far Toni Rea and Booker Gibson have confirmed they'll be at the Saturday night dinner.

A question from Barbara Zingman Braunstein:  Does the $45 for the dinner include the tax and tip?  (Yes, it does.)

An update:  There's been further support for both the juke box and a reunion videotape, and Paul says we don't have to reserve the juke box till April 1st.  So, right now, it depends on how much we collect in donations.  If we've covered the hospitality suite rental, the snack food, and the teachers dinners by then, and we have extra money for the juke box and to rent a videocamera (unless someone volunteers one) we will.  Otherwise, it's Terri's boom box and my snapshots.
 000200000792000006CC 78C,
Which leads us to our running totals:  So far 25 people have paid for their Saturday night dinners---that's a total of $1125 toward the projected $4000 cost.  Plus, we have $670 donated toward the hospitality suite.

Some fan mail for Allen Moss, from Barnet Kellman:  The high esteem in which I hold Allen Moss keeps rising.  Boy, do you know a lot about TV.  I work in the medium and I'd forgotten most of that stuff!  Also, learning that Linda Iaquinto was your bar mitzvah date has made a  beautiful sepia-toned mind-picture in my head.

Some wisecracking from Robert Fiveson:  Tell Allen Moss I feel like I should get a coupon after reading that, good for an AA degree or something!

Other thoughts from Barnet:  A couple or responses to previous updates:  I for one learned my lesson at the last reunion and will not be bringing my wife (as if I could get her to come).  It's too much of a walk down someone else's memory lane.  Not to mention a big style cramper.
As to people's fears of dancing:  well, the music will be nice background no matter what.  I do, however, have distinct memories of people dancing after a few decade-dissolving drinks last time.  And if Ira Mitzner, Bob Fiveson and Jay Tuerk revive the FABULARS, I might have to revive the group that sang "Lollipop" at a Forest Road assembly in sixth grade.  But I'd have to remember who was in it first.  Three of us, I think:  me and Andy Dolich---was that you?  And Neil Guberman.  Please refresh my waning memory.
One more thought -- sorry to hear about Mr. Maggio.  You could threaten to kill me and I probably couldn't remember any of the math he taught me, but I'll never forget that he was the one who taught us (during a class) that there were names for noodles other than spaghetti.  It was from his lips that I first heard of linguini, ditali, and dupadetti.  He was a real character, and he loved his pasta -- may he rest in peace.
 00020000076800000E58 762,
Other thoughts from Robert:  Good news!  I called Greg Kaplan and it turns out he was just waiting for someone to contact him about the reunion.  So he's coming.  His e-mail address is:  Lkaplan8@aol.com

Other thoughts from Allen:   I collect vintage toys and have a reference book which is actually a compilation of the Sears Toy Catalogs from 1951-1969.  It's used in the collecting hobby as sort of a guide to identify which year what playset was produced.  Well, talk about going down memory lane!  Wild Bill Hickock gun belts and chaps.  Lionel Trains.  Cap guns. Friction cars.  It goes on and on.  Unbelievable.  When I first bought the book, I couldn't put it down.  I literally "surfed" through it from front to back, and spent hours in a baby boomer reverie -- and it wasn't drug-induced, just memory-induced.  I've only been in the hobby since last August, but the book is a total wreck from being paged through so many times!

A correction.  Something that wasn't Allen's mistake, but my editing:  Guy Williams.  Guy Madison.  One wore a mask, the other didn't.

Which bring us back to Allen:  Forgot to ask, did you ever surf on the Guy Madison site?  If so, did he seem familiar to you from the golden "tube" days?  There is a great picture of Madison as Wild Bill and Andy Devine as Jingles, his roly-poly sidekick.  Aaahhhh, those were the days!
Also, I have just reconnected with Diane Fruzetti as a result of her reading my little baby boomer "editiorial."  Diane and I go back to Brooklyn Avenue and began our friendship in the 4th grade.  So we've had a week of fun e-mails and a bit of getting back to know each other over these 37 years.  And, really, I just can't imagine what the energy and emotional level is going to be at this reunion.  Certainly it will be all positive, but I suspect the level of that enthusiasm and connection will be off the charts.
 00020000074A000015BA 744,
Two small technical problems:  the e-mail address we have for Pat Devine and Denise Frango Baxter don't seem to be working anymore.  So if anyone happens to know either Pat or Denise well, could you please call them and find out their current e-mail addresses?  If you need their phone numbers, I have them.

Some homework from Nancy Garfield and Fran Bellucci Johnson:  a rough draft of the requested Class of Õ65 Reunion Questionnaire

Name:
Home address (optional -- or city & state where you currently live):
Phone number (optional):
E-mail address (optional):
Occupation (or how you spend your days or nights):
Spouse/Partner's name (if you have one):
Children and/or pets names (please distinguish):
Hobbies or pastimes:
Retirement plans:
Attending the reunion?
Anything else you want us to know:  (For example, in 100 words or less, everything  thatÕs happened to you in the past 37 years.  Or the best thing you've ever done.  Or the best thing about high school.  Or the most embarrassing thing that happened to you in high school that you didnÕt want anyone to know.)

If everyone interested could please send reactions, or additions, to the questionnaire, so we can figure out what we want on it in time to collect as many of them as are offered, that would help.  Thanks.

Finally, another fast story from Robert Fiveson:  This past summer I spent a lot of time hunting and fishing with my son, my feeling being you're only 13 and it's summer once in your life.  We went to the New River Gorge for two days of whitewater rafting, sandwiched with a horse ride on the second day.  A six-hour horse ride.  After one hour, I was praying the horse would have a stroke so I could walk back.  After six hours, I needed a rather personal transplant.  Point being -- you will never see me on a horse again.  They're only good for one thing -- dog food.
