Update 2-12-02

Ah, yes,

Old acquaintance:

From Paul DeMartino:  Hi, just to give you the update on yesterday's event.  Attendees included:  Joan Aries, Jay Berliner, Barbara Brill, Tom Buck, Barbara Endy, Robin Feit, Jay Gladky, Ken Nolan, Dennis Shapiro, Danny Stellabotte, Mark Yetman, and yours truly.  As in the past, we had a great time catching up and reminiscing.  Several people paid me for the April Reunion and those funds will be deposited as soon as possible.  Many people asked to get together again before April and it has been decided to hold another mini-reunion, same place, beginning at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 9th.  This will not conflict with St. Patrick's Day festivities and should give enough time in advance for everyone to arrange their schedules.  It is quite obvious that these mini-reunions have addressed a need and everyone seems to really enjoy themselves.  They are intimate enough where everyone is able to mix and mingle with everyone else and no one feels left out.  Of course, people frequently are searching through the yearbook, which I left available on the bar, to remember faces.  I took more pictures and will send them to you as soon as I have them processed.

A note from Barbara Blitfield Pech:  Hi.  While the internet and e-mail are still miracles to me, I just had the pleasure of a good old fashioned phone call with Paul Zegler, sharing recent and past lives.  I suggest if you have anyone's phone number, call them and just say hi.  Those are certainly some of the best long distance minutes I've enjoyed in a long time, and I look forward to the next time's.  Nothing beats hearing a friend's voice.

Additionally, from Peter Rosen:  Barbara's absolutely right.  I called Rich the other night (we weren't even close friends in high school) and had the most delightful conversation.  It was like time had stopped 37 years ago.  I can't believe it's 37 years.

And from Ellen Epstein Silver:  I've been away for several weeks, and when I came home there were 110 e-mails to muddle through.  But I went straight for the ones from Reunionclass65.  They make me feel 17 again.

More from Paul DeMartino:  I just found Mike (Flomp) Floyd.  A friend of his responded to the Newsday reunion announcement that appeared today.  She's from the Class of '67 and asked whether I had contacted Mike.  I told her we were still looking, but thanks to her, he's been found him.  He's still in Valley Stream, and his e-mail address is:  court84@hotmail.com   We spoke tonight and you can add him to the list.  He also wants to come to the mini-gathering on March 9th.

From Larry Rugen:  Just a thought---I believe many people will be coming with their significant others.  As the saying goes, it's a small world, so perhaps those who are coming with a non-South partner should announce the information ahead of time to see if there might be another acquaintance?  In that case:  Larry and Joan Rugen (Joan Jendryck, Class of '65 Andrew Jackson, of Cambria Heights, and later moved to Malverne.)  Getting closer!

(Rich again:  Actually, I'm not sure how many wives, husbands, and others might be coming along.  I haven't gotten a lot of answers to last week's question, but most have been that the wives, husbands, and others are wise enough after many years of marriage or companionship to know better than intervene in three days of renewed Woodstock without mud.)

An RSVP, from Wes Eddy:  My wife are I are coming to the April 26th Reunion.

Another, from Cynthia Ingolia Kammerer:  Please add me to the growing list of those attending the reunion.  Also, I am trying to see if Judy Jacobsen will consider going.

And from Ken Nolan:  I will attend the reunion in April.  I spoke to Steve Spector, too.  He is a maybe.  See you soon.

A regret, from Jean Cohen Oklan:  I'll be heading down to Long Island for Passover so won't be down for the reunion.  But I'm thoroughly enjoying all the excitement of the reunion.  I'm sitting back watching all this from afar and can't get over the wonderful energy.

Also from Jean:  Vermont ski resorts are doing well now that we have snow.  My
son usually frequents Jay Peak Ski Resort, but he is gigging nights and taking his music seriously and doesn't want to injure himself.  As a parent of a musician, I've been waiting for him to cop this attitude for years!

From Allen Moss:  Here are a few pictures from my little home town of Brunswick, Maine to put on the website.  Maybe the caption could be:  Allen Moss invites his fellow falconers to his little home town of Brunswick, Maine for some "lobstah" and "chowdah."  (The pictures are on the home page under Current Photos.)

A correction from last week:  Conger---a type of eel.  Conjure---to make something, like an eel, suddenly appear.  Spellcheck---an undependable, often fishy, piece of software.

Some follow-ups:

About name-tags:  Some people would like to wear their high school pictures as IDs.  Some people would like to see them burned.  But many people agree that, at least initially, we need some way to identify ourselves.  How about we all bring our own name tags, and we'll have some generic stick-ons in the hospitality suite as back-ups?

About renting a juke box:  Many people seem to think it's better than a DJ or boom box.  Now, anyone know where we can rent a juke box on Long Island?

Or, from Ira Mitzner:  You could always rent some instruments and Jay Tuerk, Bob Fiveson, and I could bring back our "Fabulars" band and entertain you.  (That's a joke.)  But you should have been there the day Tuerk and Fiveson dyed their hair purple---before it was fashionable.

About a dignified video:  Yep, people would like one.  Now about the logistics...

As for the Bring Your Own Bottle stuff:  From Paul---I was thinking that anything brought to the hospitality suite was part of the common larder and not to be religiously guarded with each person's name on the bottle.  But I'm with you in saying that we'll supply the beer, wine, soda, coffee, and tea, and the rest is on the others.

(Note:  In these follow-ups, when I say many people, of course I'm talking about a majority of the sliver of a sample.)

Finally, from yesterday's L.A Times:  "Irish McCalla, the 5'-9" blonde actress best remembered for bringing "Sheena, Queen of the Jungle" to television died on February 1st.  The action series about a female superhero in an era when women were expected to raise children and bake cookies, ran 26 episodes in 1956.  But the series has been so replayed around the world that McCalla remained popular at superhero conventions until her death."
       And in my early dreams...
