Update 8-21-01
Hi,
202 people found, in various stages of contact.
5 more votes for the reunion to be held in New York, tipping the balance slightly north. (Yeah, yeah: one said she'd go either way.)
Scattered showers locally
Social Notes:
From Barbara Zingman Braunstein: Well, I saw Jane Wolff yesterday with her husband and youngest daughter. Her daughter was visiting SUNY Stonybrook as a possible college choice for 9/02. We met at a local diner since we were in between an ouf-rouf (shul blessing of a prospective bridegroom) and a retirement party. Jane looks exactly the same! She's working for a company that gives out Fannie Mae mortgages, basically dealing with policy. Unfortunately, we only had about an hour to spend together, but we'll be getting together at the end of this month with Ellen Meisner (who lives near Jane in Maryland) when I go to DC to move my son Todd into his apartment.
And bios:
From Bernie Scheidt: I have been married to the Adele for 31 years, and I guess one of us is entitled to some kind of award just for that. She is the Assistant Museum director for Caramoor Music Festival in Katonah. We have two sons: Jonathan is 26 and is a paramedic specializing in high risk pediatric transport for New York
Presbyterian Children's hospital; Brian is 23 and graduated from Bard College in May of 2000 and has been living in Paris and spent the first year studying at the Sorbonne. He is now a paralegal with a French / English law firm in Paris (this does not make his mother happy). We have lived in Brewster, NY for the last 14 years, prior to that we lived in Valley Stream. My first job out of college I worked for A & S in their executive training program (Stu Glasser was in the same class as me), but after two years I decided retail wasn't for me so I went to work for my cousin in the food import business. I spent 23 years there developed all their inside computer systems and distribution network. I then went to work for a toy company that
0002000007D8000007CB 7D2,eventually bought Marvel Comics (yes, Spiderman was my boss) and directed their worldwide computer and telecom operations. About a year ago I left Marvel and went to work for Louis Glick & Company, a diamond jewelry manufacturer (the cheapest article we sell is $100,000, going up to $6,000,000). I run their computer operations.
From Barbara Blitfield Pech: Greetings, hola, and shalom from South Miami, where I (we) have lived since "The Great New York Exodus of 1977." I enjoyed a rewarding career in the apparel industry, as a name brand clothing designer, until the birth of our son in 1978, then took a long ÒmomÓ sabbatical until 1985, when I ÒbecameÓ a single parent (ouch) so went back to school for continuing business studies in Retail Store Buying & Planning, Marketing, Merchandising, Advertising & DesignÉ (why yes, I am Rachel Green!) After many years of Òcareer building,Ó IÕve recently left the Òactive business community,Ó (9-5, M--F, $$$, perks) to start my own freelance business, (long hours, 24/7ÉNO perksÉBUT we closed out our first year Òin the black). And ÒitÕs all good," at least, so farÉ I am always Óon the go:" I'm Past President of my neighborhood association board, Weight Watchers Leader, former PTA Magnet School Board Member, and in my Òspare time," I sing back-up [do wop] vocal with The South Florida Group Harmony Association, mentor for The Odyssey of the Mind, and serve on the parent board of The University of Central Florida. But my greatest commitment is to The Susan G. Koman Foundation, and The Race For The Cure. As a 4 year Breast Cancer SURVIVOR, I often Òsuggest" to my oncologist to Òstart looking around for a 'new job' because within my LONG 2nd LIFETIME I look forward to the day he will need one! And thatÕs okay with him too! Just want to take a minute more to offer a long overdue thank you to Mr. Solomon for teaching me the ONE high school subject I do useÉEVERYDAY. Gracias! Best Regards to ALL, Looking forward to seeing YOU!
000200000AA100000F9D A9B,
From Nick Messina: After graduation, I entered the work force while attending Nassau Community College in the evenings. In April 1968, I enlisted in the Air Force, and six months later returned to New York to get married. During my career, I lived in Washington, Massachusetts, Guam, New Jersey, England, Texas, Alaska and Florida. While I was stationed in England, I transferred credits accumulated
over the years and earned a Bachelors Degree in Business through Troy State University. I retired in Panama City, Florida on September 1, 1988. My transition to civilian life was quick. I traded in my "blue uniform" on Friday for a "suit" on Monday. I worked as a Coordinator for Business and Industry Training at Gulf Coast Community College until August 1999 when we moved to Parkland, Florida (just south of Boca Raton) to be near our three children, and three grandchildren---number four is due any day now. Our oldest son graduated from UF and is a Computer Engineer, our middle son, works as a Surveyor and our daughter is a Registered Nurse. I work for the School Board of Broward County in the Property Management and Site Acquisition Department. My wife of almost 33 years works as a Personal
Banker for Bank of America.
From Carol Bunim Okin: After graduating SUNY Albany, I married Bob Okin, class of '64. We lived in Boston for a year then moved to Queens. I taught English at Carle Place and West Hempstead High Schools (thanks, Ms. Rae!), then we moved to Manalapan, NJ and started a family (daughters Andrea and Tracey). I got into the travel business in '78 -- spent about 15 years doing leisure travel, and have worked for Rosenbluth International managing the travel for Philips Electronics for the last 7 1/2 years. We became grandparents this month -- very amazing!
Finally, some sad news from Jean Cohen Oklan: Pam Stampf died two years ago. She wrote children's books I had the pleasure of reading to the kids at my day-care center. I believe she graduated from Julliard in New York, but I'm not sure what year that was. I received a note from her publisher asking for donations in Pam's name, to a cause she was sponsoring. That's how I found out about her death. Then my Mom sent me the Newsday article. I can get back to you with the names of her books. My memory stinks these days.
Also, you'll notice that in addition to sending this update, I'm sending along the complete contact list. Yes, it's always available, updated regularly, on the link, and can be easily copied from there. But some people just wanted it e-mailed. Good think you didn't ask for my Elvis collection.
