Update 3-12-02

Hi,

A message from our friendly accountant.

From Paul DeMartino:  We are approaching mid-March, and now is the time for all good Falcons to come to the aid of their Reunion.  I'd like to have all funds collected by April 1st, to give another business week for the out-of-town checks to clear.  This is imperative in order to ensure that we can meet our obligations to the hotel, and also to determine the status of donations to the hospitality suite, and if there is money for extras -- like to pay for the hospitality suite, stock it with food and drink, and rent a juke box, and possibly a video camera.
I have to pay the hotel $1000 no later than March 25th, and we have that much already.  However, we have guaranteed 100 people for the Saturday night buffet, and that means we will owe the hotel another $3000 no later than April 15th.  We don't have that yet, even if we add in all the extra donations.  As I've said before, I'm trying to cut down on the stragglers who pay after April 1st, or don't finally decide they want to come to the reunion till April 25th.  Still, I'm sure there'll be a couple of people who can't be certain of their plans till late, and I'll be happy to see them.  I'd rather have them pay me late than not be there at all.  I recently spoke with the hotel catering manager, who said they can accommodate about 10 late or unexpected arrivals -- and if people show up at the buffet wanting to pay that evening, I'll be the "bad guy" and collect their $45 in cash.  Still, it would be nice if everyone understood the urgency of paying in advance -- well in advance.
0002000006F200000646 6EC,         Several classmates have also inquired as to helping out with Friday night, or about any other way they can be useful.  At this point, the only needs I see are with setting up and providing for the hospitality suite.  A couple people said they will donate a bottle to the beverages already purchased, especially since we are not buying hard liquor.  That's fine, but I really don't know what else they can do.  Maybe they can help set up snacks and food, and clear trash.  Or help decorate.  We've received suggestions about programs, name tags, and yearbook copies, with no one volunteering help create these things. Don Doubrava e-mailed me on Saturday saying that he most likely won't be at the reunion, but, like others, asked if there was any way he could get a copy of the yearbook.  So if anyone could figure those things out, it would be terrific.
Also, I was asked by one the Lily Flanagan revelers about bringing some Falcons from other classes to the Friday night cocktail party.  I don't think that will be a problem.  By that point we should be in good shape financially, and a few extra people on Friday should pose no problem.  Of course, if they want to hang around Saturday, then come to the dinner, they'll be expected to pay.
While I'm kind of on the subject, last Saturday's gathering at Lily Flanagan's was another success and thoroughly enjoyed by those in attendance. The party consisted of Dave Licht, Barbara Endy, Danny Stellabotte, Robin Feit, Dennis Shapiro, Rosemary Mercurio, Kenny Nolan, Joan Aires, Mark Yetman, Sharon Hoenig and me.  I've got pictures, and they actually represent the last two events.  I'm only sending the best for the home page.  As for the others, they go to the highest bidder.  (Only kidding.)
00020000069800000D32 692,       And, believe it not, I've been approached by the party animals in our class to have another New York area gathering!  Absolutely amazing!  I really don't have the time, but what the hell!  So, the next gathering will be April 6th, same time and place.  And we encourage all who are able, to attend.  This will be the last gathering before the actual reunion, and it will be a chance to break the ice, and see some old classmates prior to the Big Event.
That's about it for now.  Sorry if I got  wordy.  Regards, as usual, to all.

Paul DeMartino's address:  (Please remember to make your check out to Paul DeMartino, note South '65 Reunion somewhere on it, indicate how many people it covers at $45 per dinner for Saturday night, and, if you wish, add a contribution toward the hospitality suite.)

Our running totals:  So far 47 people have paid for their Saturday night dinners---that's a total of $2115 toward the projected $4000 cost.  Plus, we have $1170 donated toward the hospitality suite.

An update from Terri Donohue Calamari:  Regarding the teachers I was able to locate and invite:  Mr. Solomon, Mrs. Margolin, Mr. Gibson, Ed Schmidt and Virginia Ressa Schmidt, Mrs. Vincello, Mr. O'Brien, Mr. Rosov, Mr. Argenzio, Mr. Tampio, and Mr. Stevens (from Forest Road).  Many of our teachers left South before they retired, so aren't tracked through the informal South network.  That means they're as hard to find as our missing classmates.  And, of course, some of our teachers have unfortunately died.  We keep forgetting that some of them, by now, would be in their mid-eighties.

Other news:

From Denise Frango Baxter:  I have been out straight since my new job started in November.  Please change my e-mail address in the class directory and also use it to keep me updated.  I miss getting the news from everyone.  New e-mail address: dpowellsh@msn.com   My job and life are both going well.  Regards to all.

From Judy Hartstone:  I have also been getting a lot more spam than usual, some of it about farm animals -- which I don't even want to think about!  On a more positive note (no pun intended, but I'll take it), this reunion mania has led me to purchase "Maltshop Memories" and "Prom Night," two sets of cassettes filled with 50s and early 60s music -- fantastic!  "Tammy."  "Teen Angel."  "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?"  "Good Night Sweetheart."  It's so much fun to be singing along.  (Only because no one can hear me!)

From Barbara Blitfield Pech:  Hi there.  Hope all is good.  For Your Information, I've just validated the reason people save stuff -- leave George Carlin out of this for now.  I found, among my treasures, South memorabilia including:  2 Southern Belles, circa 1962; several class of '65 dance/booster programs; a Sigma Alpha raffle ticket for a transistor radio; my Pi Sigma Theta member pledge; a Miss Arventidies algebra test;  and last, but not least, my certificate of passing Driver Ed  -- in spite of whatever terrors Stu Borman may have suppressed seat-belted into the back seat of the Driver Ed car.  You may want to ask anyone with similar paper memories to dig 'em out and bring them for the reunion.  Best Regards.
 00020000065E00001C13 658,
From Ira Mitzner:  I was able to locate Bill Linkner, who was wrestling coach to a number of us in the class.  He lives in Hilton Head, but there's an outside chance he'll be visiting Long Island during the reunion weekend.  He's going to let me know.

A new e-mail address for Rob Kelman:  tkmk@cox.net   (And Rob Kelman and his wife, and Linda Cohen and her husband, are all about to become grandparents for the first time -- Rob and Linda's daughter Jennifer is due in August.  Yeah, yeah, yeah:  this grandparent business is old news for some of you.  But I'm excited.)

An RSVP from Greg Kaplan:  Please add me to the list of people who will be coming in April.  My e-mail address, again working properly, is: LKAPLAN8@aol.com

No word from Robert Fiveson this week.

A note from Leslie D.Shaffer, Director of Alumni Services, Thiel College:  You recently requested the address of William N. Brady.  It is the policy of the Thiel College Alumni Office not to give out the contact information of our alumni.  However, we do inform them that you are trying to reach them.  Any further contact is left up to their discretion. I have sent William a letter with your e-mail address information. I hope he will contact you soon.  If the Alumni Office can be of any further service, please don't hesitate to  contact me.
(Rich again:  This is the only way I know to get information about someone you've lost track of, but whose college you happen to remember.  And that's assuming the person has been a dutiful contributor to their alumni association.  So if there's someone you want to find, you might try this way.)
