Update 4-2-02
Hi,
The Special Linda Cohen Kelman Greenseid Edition.
From Linda: First, I hate Janice Williams, who can still fit into her wedding dress. I remarried 7 years ago (after a 14 year whirlwind courtship) and can't even fit into my 2nd wedding dress. The reason for this (under the heading of "too much information") is that I've recently begun menopause. I realize that I've just lost the male half of our class, but the women know whereof I speak. Metabolism is now a word from my past and I have gained quite a bit of weight. I understand that this whole process can last like 10 years. Whoopee!! So I want a do-over. We must have another reunion in 10 years so I can present myself in my trimmer former figure. After all, this reunion is all about me, isn't it?
Second, as Rich mentioned, my daughter is pregnant, and in preparation, I've taken up knitting and crocheting. Not only is it relaxing, but you can't eat while your hands are busy trying to make that strand of wool into something wearable. I recommend it, but don't curse at me when you drop your stitches and it turns out not to be so relaxing after all. Of course, I can't always remember where I've put my knitting or parked my car or various other lapses that I now blame on menopause. Actually, I've decided to blame everything on the big M: murderous impulses toward my husband, CHOCOLATE CRAVINGS, bad hair days. Might as well get some mileage out of this middle-age mess.
Third, in my menopausal lunacy, (there does seem to be a theme here) I've taken up ice skating. My 10 year old granddaughter dared me and I rose to the bait. (Didn't our parents tell us never to take a dare?) Never having been on any type of skate -- ice or roller -- this is very difficult. There may be some kind of statute of limitations on learning certain skills, because I truly suck. Nevertheless, I go every week and fall down and get up again. Remember LBJ's scar that he so proudly displayed? Well, I will be happy to reveal my black and blues on request.
00020000077F00000804 779, Finally, I will be happy to see you all on April 27. Will there be any chocolate there, and how's the air conditioning?
Linda Cohen Kelman Greenseid (enough names there?)
Other letters:
From Jerry Bittman: First, for Eric Hilton: the Bobby Friedman that passed away lived in Lynbrook. His father owned a photography studio in Lynbrook called Carol Studios. Bobby took over the business years later.
Second, for Barbara Blitfield: your 3 1/2 hour conversation with Robin Feit might have covered the first 10 years after South, but my 2 hour conversation with Pete Rosen was just trying to figure out who we were.
Third, I tried calling Robert Colman in California, but the number was disconnected.
Fourth, Mark Perlman, I don't know if you know this, but one of our classmates also lives in the Springs -- that is Dr. Arthur Halprin. Artie is a gastro-however you say it. Say, Artie, can you take about 66 inches away from my stomach? In the past 2 months I tried to lose 545 pounds, but lost only ONE. I fell short of my goal by only 544 pounds. I wonder what was the cumulative weight loss of everybody attending the reunion. And if anybody is planning on last minute plastic surgery, go see Barry Dolich -- Andy's brother.
Also, is it true that Barnett Kellman is bringing Candace Bergen along? BK, please say "hi" to my niece when you see her.
And this final message to Janet Zdunczyk: you really did have the most beautiful hands I've ever seen. That's an inside joke.
From Eric Hilton: Jerry, thanks for that report about Bob Friedman. Years ago, when my wife and I returned from Spokane, Washington, and lived in East Rockaway, I got a photography job at Carol Studio. Bob's father was my boss. I worked with Bob, and Joe Gagliano, also from South. I even have a photo of the Carol Studio crew somewhere. Thanks for the info.
00020000073B00000F7D 735,
From Barbara Zingman Braunstein: regarding clothes: my vote is for business casual for Saturday night, and for the rest of the weekend, jeans. Let's not get as dressed up as we got for school back before women wore slacks/jeans to school/college/work. Looking forward to seeing everyone!
From Judy Hartstone: I want to squelch any rumors -- it is absolutely NOT true that I will be borrowing Gwyneth Paltrow's Oscar dress for the Saturday night reunion dinner! (Living on an island means that clean, matching sweats is my standard for "dressy." But if you insist, I will consider something a little more elaborate.)
From Gayle Ulrich Ramesh: Are you getting any feedback on the dress code for Saturday night? I vote very casual, but that's because I don't have anything else in my wardrobe, and I can't find anything to fit decently when I shop. See you in April.
From June Forbes Tatelman: I have just spent the last few hours reading all the reunion updates and the latest information on so many classmates. The memories came flooding in and I would love to attend the reunion. Unfortunately, I have to be in Schenectady, N.Y. by 7:00 PM on Saturday. I am seriously thinking of coming in for Friday evening, if a lot of people will be there and not just coming for Saturday night. There are so many of you I would love to reconnect with. (June's e-mail address is: junetate@aol.com.)
From Grace Dibble Kincade: Just thought I would clear up a glitch. Unfortunately, my husband is not coming to the reunion. As I already mentioned, my daughter Christy will be with me. She lives in the D.C. area and that is where I am flying into, and then we will both drive to New York on Friday. Christy even talked me into seeing The Lion King Sunday night, so we are not leaving until Monday. Really looking forward to this event.
0002000006A6000016B2 6A0,
From Jay Berliner: Because of a previous engagement, my wife and I cannot attend the Saturday night dinner, but we will be there until about 8 PM. I will probably be at the hotel at other times during the weekend. Best regards.
From Michele Cohen Collins: Just a slight addition: I will be attending the reunion with my significant other---John Stafford
Some regrets: Judy Jacobsen called Paul DeMartino to say that she would not be able to attend the reunion. She added that, unfortunately, neither would Linda Johnson and Paul Gerardi.

000200000EE200001D52 EDC,
Nancy Garfield just sent eight new answers to the questionnaire---actually some are more detailed versions of what was in the updates. That gives us information to share on about a fifth of the class. More would be nice. I'll e-mail the updated bio information later this week. Again, the questionnaire:
Name:
Home address (optional -- or city & state where you currently live):
Phone number (optional):
E-mail address (optional):
Occupation (or how you spend your days or nights):
Spouse/Partner's name (if you have one):
Children and/or pets names (please distinguish):
Hobbies or pastimes:
Retirement plans:
Attending the reunion?
Anything else you want us to know:
Please send your answers to Nancy Garfield at NGarf1234@aol.com. Or mail them to Nancy at 3741 S.W. Munson, Topeka, Kansas 66604
Our running totals: So far 102 people have paid for their Saturday night dinners---that's a total of $4590 towards a cost that gets slightly larger with every additional dinner. But Paul assures me that we can now meet our obligation to the hotel. Plus, we have $2140 donated toward the hospitality suite. That means Paul's gone ahead and ordered the juke box for Saturday night, so now all we have to do is figure out the video situation.
Finally, there are new photos of Booker Gibson, Carol Ewig Duran, and Bernie Scheidt and his wife under Current Photos on the home page. With Bernie, you also get a famous Italian fountain.
