Update 2-10-15
Hi,
First, from Allen Moss after last week’s storm: Final tally in my little home town of Brunswick... 46 inches on the ground as of this morning after the blizzard AND our back-to-back snow storms. Temperatures are a balmy 3 degrees right now and headed to the sub-cellar tonight. Ah yes... the joys of living in Maine in New England! Gotta love it! On a positive note, I live on a very wide residential street where the houses are circa 1920s to 1950s, nicely spaced apart, and with lots of older trees. The street is beautiful with a huge covering of snow. But when it starts to melt... oh brother!
Yesterday, Allen added: Moss in Alaska... I mean Maine. Well, as of this morning, 2/9, we are now up over 60 inches of snow on the ground with more coming today. We have now been told, to our delight, that after the snow goes away, probably Wednesday, we are going into a deep freeze. Uh... and what do you call our current temperatures of teens during the day and single and sub-zero numbers at night? This is really bordering on the ridiculous. But I am grateful that I own a Subaru Forester and that I am retired. And I certainly am keeping heart healthy with all my shoveling. Hope all you folks outside of our Klondike territory here can enjoy the sight of the ground and feel the warmth of the sun. I sure do miss both!
[Rich – I wrote Allen, saying: Oh, yikes. I can't think of anything else to say.]
Allen replied: Believe me... neither can I! Just accept it and move on... to the next storm!
Related to blizzards, Linda Cohen Greenseid wrote: The frozen tongue to the pole is from the perennial favorite A Christmas Story movie. And please tell Robert Fiveson that Gone With The Wind has a happy ending: he gets the girl, and they live happily ever after.
Mark Perlman seconded Linda: I know that I will be one of at least 50 classmates to tell you that Flick's tongue on the lamp post is from the movie A Christmas Story. If you have not seen it, you should. You probably have seen it, but like me, your memory is getting brittle.
[Rich – Thanks. I should have known it came from a Jean Shepherd story. I read a lot of them and saw that movie, but not the musical based on it. Still, my favorite works of his were the stories he told on radio, complete with sound effects. I used to listen to them in high school, in the dark, after my parents thought I was asleep.
And I see the character’s name is Flick, not Flicks, as I wrote last week. I wasn’t sure.]

Related, from Fran Bellucci Johnson: I am not able to attend the reunion, but please say "Hi" to everyone for me. I will be leaving split personality Kansas weather for Cathedral City's next Monday. Five weeks in the sun working on my tan. And hitting the La Quinta arts festival.
[Rich – With Fran visiting California, that puts at least three former class of ‘65 folks in the Palm Springs area, and I know of another half-dozen in Los Angeles. If people would like to carpool to Palm Springs some Sunday while Fran is here, maybe we can get together for lunch. Please let me know.]
Also about the reunion, from Linda Chanes Abel: I realize the planning is a for weekend, but is Saturday night the actual reunion?
[Rich – Not really. The whole weekend is for the reunion, but it seems some people can only get free Saturday night, so that’s why they’re coming then. Though, so far, the count is about 22 people for Friday through Sunday and 10 people for only Saturday night. I hope that helps.]
A confirmation from Betsy Fels Pottruck: In answer to Andy Dolich's question, yes, my ex-husband David was the former CEO and President of Charles Schwab. He has kept very busy since those days. He is now Chairman of Hight Tower Investments. He is also still great friends with Peter Bluemthal. They get together at least once a year at Penn for a football game. And, as former spouses, David and I are terrific friends, We went on a ski vacation in Deer Valley this past holiday with our children and grandchildren. So much for The War of the Roses.
Finally, instead of another section of that piece about the history of Green Acres, a memory forwarded by Emily Kleinman Schreiber. This was elicited from one of her former classmates, Ed Casey, and remembers the 1960 North-South game:
I still grieve over that game; we lost an undefeated season, and the 3-year North-South game trophy. I remember rushing the quarterback and reaching up to block the pass. I didn't go all out because I feared a fake pass and a run around me. (If only I had reached just a little more.) I turned like others to see the path of the ball, and I still say, along with many others, that the ball went through his arms, and he did not have full possession of it, thus no touchdown. I heard rumors why it was called that way, but will not say what. It still remains a bitter memory. I was the first one on TV, since they started at my position. We would be on a few seconds while we were introduced, then the producer or director would wave us off and the next man would go before the camera. Almost 55 years and the pictures in my mind are as fresh as can be.
