Update 3-10-15
Hi,
First, the scholarship fundraising for this year is done. Thanks to everyone who contributed. We added $720 to the $300 we had from last year’s overage because the class of ‘63 contributed money that needed to be used last year. That bumped money other people had contributed to this year. And because we’re $20 over this year, that will go toward next.
So please don’t send any more money. Save it for next year, when we don’t have this buffer.
I’ll let Liz King Giordano know we’ve assured the scholarships for another year, and when she gives me the names of the recipients in April, I’ll send her the checks.

Next, a couple of notes about the reunion:
From from Roz Minsky Hahn: Hi, All. My husband and I are planning to attend the reunion, probably for Friday and Saturday. We’re not sure we will stay at the hotel as we have family and friends in the area.
Looking forward to seeing everyone. Hard to believe that 50 years ago we were planning our graduation parties and the senior prom. I actually still have our prom mug – the same one Barnet Kellman sent a photo of for the class photo site – though mine went into the dishwasher and now is all white.
Safe travels all. It’s snowing yet again in West Hartford, Connecticut, with five- and eight-foot drifts around our condo. That doesn't beat what Allen Moss has, but it’s a huge amount of white stuff for here. Regards to all.

And from Ellen Epstein Silver: I just booked my plane flight and then called the Hyatt hotel to make a reservation. But there are no more rooms at the discounted price. I did book a room for two nights, but it cost $425 rather than the expected $340. Please tell me if anyone else had similar concerns.
[Rich – As I wrote Ellen, the mistake was calling the hotel, which I know is only logical. But if you make reservations through the Hyatt site, you get a cheaper rate. Here’s what I wrote Ellen:
I got these 2 quotes by going to hyatt.com, clicking on reservations, choosing Hauppauge, and entering the reunion dates. The first quote uses an AAA or AARP card. The second uses either of those cards and then chooses the Pay in Advance feature. That means you can't cancel.

That $343 is about what the reservation cost in August, so it hasn’t gone up much. But I can’t guess what will happen in the next 7 weeks. If you’ve already made your reservation by phone, I’d check to see what the current rate is online. If it’s considerably less, make a new reservation online then cancel the other by phone.]
The present list stands at 35 class members, 6 spouses, and at least one guest. Who’s that guest? Emily Kleinman Schreiber, president of the Alumni Association.

Some other notes:
From Ed Albrecht: Allen Moss – Part G. I love it! Going to keep that in the back of my mind.
From Linda Cohen Greenseid: Thank you, Allen Moss. So clever and funny. Brought me a laugh just when I needed one.
From Carol Ewig Duran: All is well in Chicago. The thaw is scheduled to start tomorrow. I am soooo ready.
From Zelda White Nichols: I remember frenetically waving the red and gray pompoms at the North/South game that was televised, so there must have been cheerleaders there. I am currently wearing red and gray PJs, and every time I put them on, I think of those pompoms.
Finally, the beginning of the genealogy article by Irene Saunders Goldstein which was mentioned last week. This is just a teaser because the newsletter is running long. More next week,
As a veteran of many international conferences on Jewish genealogy, I looked forward to the start of the Los Angeles conference in 2010. The day finally arrived, and as I walked through the conference hotel lobby, a man stepped out of the elevator, smiled at me, and asked if I knew where Arthur Kurzweil would be speaking in just a few minutes. Did I want to look for the room together?
Well, even if I hadn’t planned to attend Arthur Kurzweil’s presentation, something was so attractive and compelling about this man that I likely would have accompanied him anyway (and anywhere). In a split second I knew this stranger was someone special.
Against all odds, especially at an international conference, Jerry and I discovered that we lived just an hour’s drive from each other in the Washington, D.C., area. As I often say when I recount the story, he might just as easily have lived in Johannesburg!
As we found our way together to the lecture room, we played a bit of Jewish geography. We discovered that he knew my college roommate, who had lived around the corner from him in Columbia, Maryland. And when I told him the name of an old friend from summer camp in New York who had raised her family in Columbia, Jerry’s jaw dropped. My camp friend, it turns out, was the sister of his former wife. (You can’t make this stuff up!)
