Hi,
Just wanted to mention that this week it's been warmer in New York City than in Los Angeles.
First, from Valerie Nelson Gillen: As you recall, when we were growing up, Green Acres was predominately Jewish. And as one of the token Christians I went to nine bar mitzvahs. By the time it was time for me to take confirmation classes at the Lutheran church, I thought I knew everything. So when Pastor Donahue showed us pictures of the candles on the altar, I was confident to answer that they were menorahs. Ummm, I was wrong. But I always love this story.
Also from Green Acres, but sadder: Linda Tobin Kettering mentioned that Gerri Kaplan's mother Pearl had died recently at 92 in her kitchen on Southgate Lane. She was making chicken soup. It's not a particularly bad way to go nor a bad age, except, unfortunately, all three of her children had died before her -- Gerri in an car accident years ago and her brother and sister by cancer, more recently. Gerri's brother's name was Eddie, and he was younger than she was. Her sister was possibly older, but Linda couldn't confirm that or remember her name.
Next, from Bernie Scheidt, an article that explains why Larry Miller had to suddenly drop out of Paulinda Schimmel's Ovarian Cancer Research fundraiser last spring. Bernie adds: I think our members want to pray for a South graduate's full recovery.
Comedian Larry Miller Recovers From Brain Injury
Larry Miller, who has starred in more than 100 movies, including “Pretty Woman” and “The Princess Diaries,” has recovered from a life-threatening brain injury he sustained last April. Miller, 58, fell and hit the back of his head when he tripped on concrete outside the Toluca Lake, Calif., studio where he records his podcast. His spokesman, Michael Hansen, told ABCNews.com that Miller had gone into a coma for two weeks and was placed in intensive care at UCLA Medical Center. Miller was then kept in a medically induced coma for a month, Hansen said. “It has been a slow recovery process regarding his brain connectivity, which he had to work on,” Hansen said. “It takes time to heal with these types of injuries, but he is doing extremely well.” Hansen said Miller was expected to make a full recovery and would return to work on his podcast series “This Week With Larry Miller” Wednesday. “He is one of the fortunate few who have recovered from something so traumatic,” Hansen said. “He will have a bright long life ahead of him, and he is looking forward to going back to work.”
A similar article was linked on Facebook by Barbara Blitfield Pech but was originally from People magazine:
Larry Miller Recovers From Life-Threatening Brain Injury
Larry Miller – a familiar face from his appearances on Curb Your Enthusiasm, Seinfeld, The Nutty Professor and several Garry Marshall-directed movies (Princess Diaries, Runaway Bride, Valentine's Day, New Year's Eve) – has recovered from a life-threatening brain injury. The actor, 58, fell and hit his head last April. He had just finished a podcast with comedian Adam Carolla when he lost his footing and hit the back of his head on a sidewalk. His spokesman now reveals that Miller, a married father of two, had gone into a coma and was then put on life support at UCLA Medical Center for one month. "He was hovering between life and death," says his spokesman, Michael Hansen. "It's a miracle he woke up. ... He's lucky to be alive." After Miller regained consciousness, he began a long recovery process to re-master basic cognitive functions. "He had to work on some issues regarding brain connectivity," says Hansen. Now expected to make a full recovery, Miller is back at work on his podcast series, This Week with Larry Miller, which resumes January 9th. "I'm very thankful to have recovered from a traumatic brain injury so quickly," Miller tells People.
For potentially less life threatening situations, Barbara also forwarded this, from Dave Sommers' True Health and Healing advice on Facebook. Valerie noted this as well, and an Internet search reveals it's subtitled, Will YOU Try It?
Nature's Flu Shots
juice of 6 fresh lemons
1 bulb garlic
2 teaspoons of ginger powder
2 tablespoons of honey
3 cups of Pineapple juice
1/4 teaspoon of cayenne powder
Blend all ingredients thoroughly and store in a glass jar. Take 1 cup 4 times a day until the symptoms are resolved.
From that same Internet search, it seems Dave Sommers is a Facebook presence. Finally, a friend of mine writes: I'm in Maui with my husband and his daughter and son-in-law. I'm trying to have fun on a family vacation with Alaskans who are freaked out by narrow roads in beautiful environments. I don't get it. They drive almost all friggin' year on snow and ice.
