Update 11-27-12
Hi,
Unfortunately, a couple of sad pieces of news first:
First, from Bernie O'Brien: Sorry to send the sad news that another South High School alum is no longer with us, but I received a phone call from Bob Pastor's wife, Elanor, this morning, informing me that Bob had passed away on Friday. He had been in the hospital for three weeks suffering from sepsis. If you wish to send condolences to Elanor, their address is: 1321 SE 14th Street, Deerfield Beach, Florida 33441
Next, from Arlene Ainbinder Lynn: My mom almost made it to 100 -- December 30, 1912 to November 21, 2012. The funeral was this past Sunday, and we'll be sitting shiva at my home in Green Acres / Mill Brook through this Wednesday.
[Rich -- Condolences to both Elanor Pastor and Arlene, of course.]
Third, a follow-up to last week's conversation with Linda Cohen Greenseid, from Zelda White Nichols: My heart goes out to Linda. My sister and brother-in-law's first house when they were married 58 years ago was on Kirkwood Street in the canal section of Long Beach. Before Hurricane Sandy, that area was completely evacuated. Does Linda live near there? From her description, it sounds like it from what I remember.
I used to go to Long Beach in the summer all the time when I was in high school, and it was terrible to watch the news and see all the damage being done to Long Beach and the rest of the New York / New Jersey shorelines.
Jay Berliner mentions: Many places on Long Island and in the City were devastated. Pictures don't do it justice.
Related, from Barbara Blitfield Pech: Many of us who are no longer on Long Island are beginning to get
more detailed and local storm updates as they're posted on the Facebook page "Valley Stream Baby Boomers." Temple Orh Torah and all the homes in the immediate and extended area are beyond flooded, and this is not on any national news. Branch Boulevard -- the Harbor Road to Peninsular Boulevard connecting road -- has collapsed within the past 24 hours. If anyone had friends or family who live in the area, or if they live in the area themselves and can update this information, it would be appreciated. My parents moved to Valley Lane in North Woodmere in 1973.

In lighter news, Eric Hilton writes: This is my favorite holiday ever, as Thanksgiving is all about family, friends, food, and laughing. Here is a quick Thanksgiving story.
My wife, Gilda, and I live in a condo on a pond that has many birds and ducks. Last year on Thanksgiving, I was making my world famous Duck in Orange sauce, as I do every year as I leaned to in the Navy. As I removed the ducks that were defrosting in a pan from the outside refrigerator, I looked out our back Lanai, and there were about 5 ducks looking through our screen, staring at me holding the roasting pan with two dead ducks. I couldn’t move. I just looked back at them in shock, and I never felt so guilty in my life. But, 375 degrees and 4 hours later, and after a bottle of wine, the guilt went away. Now I defrost my ducks inside.
Hope all our fellow South High family is safe and well. Since we have family and friends living In Israel, this year is going to be a bit worrisome, and I hope a cease fire is near. As always, regards to all.
Finally, for those fans of James Joyce, a note from Robert Fiveson: I recently visited a very long-time friend from Canada, Ken Gord, who coincidentally also became a TV producer, a very successful one with six seasons of The Highlander among his credits. In July 1964, he visited my brother, Mike, and me in Green Acres, and he kept a diary. He read some of it to me when I saw him last month, and here are some of the names and a few comments about his visit so long ago. I jotted them down as he read.
Diary Trip to New York, Tuesday, July 21, 1964.
Fran, Bonnie, Janice, Marc Rosen, Greg, George, Bob, Dick, Barry Perlman, Mark Beckerman, Jane, Eileen, Jay (a funny and nice boy) Bonnie Booper, Snooper, Jessie, Rich Eisbrouch (what a riot, my sides were splitting listening to this joker) The Fabulars, Jane Mann, Andrea, Dave Pizzimenti (he cut his hand and needed 2 stitches). The Central guys were coming, and we all went to the bridge for a rumble. Skip's house, Artie Halprin, card game, Mike lost $90, Bob Rutter, Jay Tuerk, touch football, Herbie Hillman, Richie McDonald, Ira Levy.

[Rich -- I think Robert might have gotten the wrong Rich. In the summer of 1964, I was working daily in New York as a messenger. It was my best summer job and a gift from my mother, after I'd spent the previous summer stuck in a camp near Binghampton with 2 hamsters and Jay Kinder.]
Robert also sent a link to a video: Hitler Finds Out Obama Won Re-Election.
Once again, someone has turned that famous scene from the movie Downfall into a brilliant parody. markcrispinmiller . com /2012/11/ nov-6th-hitler-finds-out-obama-won-re-election/ (remove the spaces)
