Hi,
A couple of things, the second, an extended joke.
First, from Eric Hilton: Here's another jazz story. I started playing guitar in the early 60s and always lusted for a Gibson, but they were expensive. After working at Baker's Shoes in the Green Acres Shopping Center as a stock boy, I saved enough money to order my Gibson Barney Kessel guitar, as Barney was one of my jazz idols. At that time, Gibson took at least three months to build a guitar, and after six months of calling the store every day -- I was the store manager's most annoying customer -- I finally got the call that my guitar was in.
When I got to the store, I found some old black dude playing my guitar, and playing chords I've never heard before. He said, "Hey, kid. This is one of the best Gibsons I've played. Is this your Axe?"
A little annoyed that someone was playing my new guitar, I said, "Yes."
Then the store owner introduced me and said, "Eric, I'd like to introduce you to Mr. Freddie Green."
I asked him, "How long have you been playing?"
He said, "Many years in the Count Basie band."
I loved many jazz guitarists. But I'd never heard anyone play like him before.
