Update 9-4-12

Hi,

Some sad news and then some lighter notes.

First, from Jerry Bittman:  Some sad news.  I would like to send condolences to Larry Colman on the passing of his wife Peggy.  Our thoughts and prayers are with Larry and his family.

[Rich -- Jerry asked for Larry's e-mail address, but I never had one for Larry, and our contact person was RoseMarie Cassillo.  But the address I had for her unfortunately no longer works.  So if anyone's in direct contact with Larry, please give him our best.  Thanks.]

Easing out of that, a note from Barbara Blitfield Pech.  This was copied to us, but sent to Brian Croce, the writer of the Valley Stream reunion piece in the Long Island Herald that I copied here last week:
    Brian Croce,
Good Morning.  So nice speaking with you today about the Facebook video that Pete Restivo did on his Valley Stream State Park bike ride.  As I mentioned in our call, attached is my high school class weekly update.  There's also a copy on our class Facebook page though I'm still looking for that address.
As you can see, I have copied our writer/editor on this as you might also want to contact him for a similar story about our class and follow up on some of the conversation and details of the page, reunions, and 45- plus year bond the class of '65 has kept via the Internet, Facebook, and other social media.  After all, we are the baby boomer rocking class that started it all, and are still making the world what it is today.
    Best regards,
    Barbara Blitfield Pech

[Rich -- I thanked Barbara, of course, and it would be nice if Brian Croce contacted us.  But then I'd have to explain why I broke copyright laws and forwarded his column last week.
Also, as Barbara mentions, the weekly update was briefly posted on our class Facebook page.  But then people said they preferred to get the update by e-mail.  I also got rid of the class Facebook page at that time because we didn't need it.]

Staying on the reunion theme, a note from Peter Rosen:  Let's have a 47th reunion to honor ten years from our 37th.  We've never been a class to follow the crowd.  And I'm in, whether it's a 47th or 50th.

[Rich -- We've kind of missed the actual tenth anniversary of our 37th, which I think was in April.  I could look it up, but that would take work.  But if someone really wants to have a party, just organize one.  For a start, you've got Peter and me there.]

Some good news, from Irene Saunders Goldstein:  I'm so happy to report that my son Eric married the lovely Erin Scott on Saturday evening.  I couldn't be more pleased with the match.  The wedding was wonderful, and I'm still deep in the afterglow.  And the Arthur Murray dance lessons were well worth it!  A handful of photos will appear on my Facebook page soon.

[Rich -- Congratulations, of course, from all of us.]

A fast question from Ellen Epstein Silver, specifically directed to me:  Just checking to see if you felt the earthquake that hit Beverly Hills this morning.   If so, hope all  is well.

[Rich -- Typically, I slept through it.  But it was around 3:30, I live far from Beverly Hills, and I think the shock was buffered by Santa Monica mountains.  A friend of mine who lives closer to the center, said the shock was short. strong, and -- at first -- felt like her cat was running across her bed.  She also said she couldn't find much about the quake in LA news, because the quake was only a 3.2, and there seemed to be no damage.]

Some nostalgia, from Zelda White Nichols.  We may have seen this link before, but it's a good one to be reminded of:  I think our group would love this.  There were a number of shows I completely forgot about, and some I remembered that were not included.  But all that are here are great.
On a sad note, Andy Griffith recently passed away. The real Mayberry RFD is Mount Airy, which is about ninety minutes from where I live in North Carolina.  It'is also where many of the characteers of the Andy Griffith show actually lived, including Andy.  It’s a wonderful town that is on the touristy side, but it's also a working town and a great day's visit for anyone in the area.  Andy was dearly loved here, and it was a very sad day when he passed away.
The promo:  If you need a little nostalgia, this is a wonderful reminder of the simple, funny shows and great actors of our youth.  A ten-minute trip down memory lane, well worth the time on an old, non-remote controlled, black and white TV with rabbit ears antenna.  Great little video clip.
