Hi,
Not quite the new year, but a bit after the Christmas date noted above. Some quick notes that have come in.
First, from Eric Hilton: I just wanted to wish all of us, the South High families, a very healthy and happy Chanukah, Christmas, and New Year. As I've mentioned before, I truly appreciate being connected by the newsletters to all the people who receive them.
Because of one of the previous 1965 school reunions on Long island, which I was talked into attending by Diane Fruzzetti I have reconnected with some of my old classmates and have kept in-touch, following and sharing their lives and continuing to bond with them today.
On another note, I have been keeping in-touch with Sheryl Rosov since before Hy passed away earlier this year. When she was helping her mother clean out the house, she found some old South High year books. I asked for 1965 edition, and she asked if I knew anyone who would be interested in any of the others. If anyone is interested, please contact me, and I'll tell you how to reach Sheryl. Thank you. My e-mail address is: thephotomaker @ comcast . net (please remove the spaces)
Again, kindest regards to all.
Next, from Linda Cohen Greenseid: Thank you to Zelda White Nichols for the wonderful piece on the "Shabbos Goy." I really enjoyed reading it and will pass it on to friends and family. Where did you find it?
And to everyone, health and happiness for the New Year and beyond in our sometimes horrible, sometimes wonderful world.
Third, from Joanne Shapiro Polner: About last week's Baby Boomer Game -- I'm older than a baby boomer. I scored 17. I didn't get three of the questions because I didn't know anything about two items and couldn't even guess!, and I wavered on the third and was wrong
1) I had to ask, first, who is Skipper? I have no idea. TV? Film? 0 answer for me.
2) I asked myself another question: Where is "lions, tigers, and bears from"? TV? Film? Another 0
3) Dylan's advice: I guess I wasn't paying good attention to him; my choice was wrong.
All the rest were a snap. I could look at the "start" and finish the "answer" before I looked at the choices. Ah, to know so much trivia!
Yeah, my head is still on straight! Maybe kids today will learn school stuff better because they are always looking at a "screen"! Well, we had the TV screen and the movie screen, so now we can still sing commercials. Is there a way to earn senior discounts now if we can sing or say the truisms of the past? "You got that right, lady! What color M&M would you like?" Ha-ha. Some discount.
Fourth, from Arlene Ainbinder Lynn: Happy Hanukkah, Christmas, and Happy New Year.
Fifth, from Marc Fishman: I saw Dave Brubeck at Place Des Arts in Montreal about two years ago. He walked slowly, with assistance, to get to the piano. He slowly sat down and lifted his hands to the keyboard. If you closed your eyes, it was 50 years ago. The music was brilliant.
Finally, from Barbara Blitfield Pech, sent on the day of the Newtown, Connecticut shootings: I can't thank you enough for the good timing on this end-of-the-year send. On a day that will be long remembered as the defining day of this year, I look forward to the good read to make this day ours again.
